Cracked Forearm -- Need Help!

Just brought home my new Winchester 1300 Upland Special. Upon inspection, I noticed that the forearm is cracked.

Is there a special tool that I need in order to remove the forearm from the slide arm assembly? I notice that the forearm is held by a screwed-in plug at the front, but it's very difficult to unscrew by hand.

I appreciate any help. Will send the forearm back to Winchester for replacement, but I don't want to send the slide bar assembly unless really necessary.

Thanks in advance!

I would take it back to the dealer that you bought if from. If it has not been shot and you have all the papers, box and other accessories they should take it back and give you another one or handle the repair process.

Unfortunately, the dealer that I buy my guns from is a large chain. No returns or exchanges on their guns -- I've been buying stuff from them for 12 years now so I really know their policy.

Just anti-climactic. I took my time looking for a shotgun that fit me well, and this happens.

On my pistol purchases (especially 1911's), whenever one part is defective, I usually just send the part back to the manufacturer to get it replaced. But in this case, I'm not in the mood to wait another 2-3 wks.

I guess I need to be patient again. Man, we customers shouldn't have to deal with these quality control issues -- not with a new gun.

Suggest;
Take it back to the store.....take notes. Talk to the store manager if necessary, If they won't exchange or refund then talk to the manufacturer.

No exchange policy shouldn't apply to defective merchandise.

Umm, I THINK that all you need is a flat steel object like a steel ruler or the back of a machette or stout knife that fits in the slot on the front of the slide bar assembly. There's a fancy tool they sell that isn't necessary. Just ensure that the bar is bottomed out just like a flathead screwdriver when you are turning it off. Really easy to come out of the slot.

Hi Guys,

Thanks so much for the advice! Went back to the store -- they had another gun (same model) -- the manager exchaged the fore-end from the one in the store to my gun. But upon coming home, the gun proved very difficult to disassemble (bolt keeps getting stuck on the ejector. The slide arms may be the culprit. The gun didn't feel the same compared with the original fore-end assembly in place.

Anyhow, I called the manager immediately that night for a possible refund or exchage, and you know what? He said it's no problem.

Went there today -- exchaged the gun for a 20 ga. BPS. Better quality, although $100.00 more expensive. I'm willing to pay extra for better quality as long as no headaches.

The manager was great, especially given the fact that their policy is no refunds or exchanges!

And again, thanks guys for your advice!
