coyote decoys at night

hey guys we have been having some coyote problems killing some of our chickens around the farm and im wanting to set up one evening and maybe try and call some in to shoot. Is it nessicary to use a decoy at night. Will they still see it and be drawn into it. I know they are night animals but i didn't know if it would be nessicary or not to use one. Normally we use a primos sit and spin so that's what i would use if i did use any thing.

Decoys are useful, and should work at night just as well as daylight, but are not "necessary" for a successful call. Won't hurt to use it if you have it.

I have a couple of questions;

Is the coyote activity frequent?

Do know the route the coyotes take?

Is there lighting around the trouble area?

Can you find a hiding spot near the coyotes path that the wind is in your favor?

My suggestion is to just wait them out, and kill one without calling, decoys or anything. Sounds like things are going on that they are pleased with already.
After a few outings then start calling. My bet is that you can ambush them easily at first. It will give you good intel if u don't.
Once you call and fail it'll be a couple weeks before calling will work.

i havnt ever went and looked to see where their trails are at. but as soon as the sun goes down they start going nuts. My father says that he has seen them out in the pasture before and they just run off. scouting isnt much of an option because the land behind us is owned by a lady that lives else where alls i know is her name. so im not a big person to just go trudging on some one elses land. there. we have a pole light but its probably 75 yards on the other side of the barn so the area where the chickens are i would say no not very well lit. We do leave a radio on out in the shed next to the coop but it didnt deture the coons or opossums. hiding spots arnt a problem. I could climb on top of one of our sheds and hunt from there.

Calling and decoys aren't going to hurt. But I think that you can ambush them. You might try a chicken in a cage while you are waiting.

Wind direction is key but not set in stone. Specially since you are a part of the farm. You could also try coyote sounds, if they hear another yote in their grocery store they should come.

Any questions can be answered here.

Like Rick had mentioned, you already have the perfect setup. Your chickens are both your decoy n your call!
The Yotes are already coming in. You just have to be there to meet em ;)

i see your point of tying a chicken up or putting him in a cage. How ever these chickens dont make noise until you grab them by the feet then they sound like they are dying. and im sure dad would love me to tie a chicken up for him

not sure

Don't know what's legal in your locale. But.....heard this story a while back.

Old boys were having 'yote trouble. On a full moon , they got up in the hay loft with scoped AR/ illum reticle and put out a bucket of butcher scraps. For a couple of nights they supposedly killed the snot out of 'em.

As an experiment I put spoiled chicken in front of a game camera. They kept visiting the spot for two weeks after it was eaten
