couple pics of the newest Contender barrels...

5.7 X 28 & fast twist 223...

these are both custom barrels built on machined blocks a buddy of mine does up, that the barrels thread into like a traditional rifle barrel...

the 5.7 X 28 is a 10" bull barrel with a 1 in 8" twist... I don't have a metal finish on the barrel yet, also fitted is one of my custom fore end mounting blocks... it is similar to the stock Pacmyer block, but it has 3 barrel mounting holes to fit a better assortment of barrel lengths, it's also made out of steel, the other is aluminum... also the standard scope mount base was machined to fit the hex shaped top side of the "block", as well as the round barrel for a custom fit

you can't really see the line between the machined block & the threaded barrel in this pic, I think it's easier to see in this shot angle on the 223 barrel, the chamber is cut in the barrel, the barrel threaded into the block, then adjusted for correct head space to the frame

the 223 barrel...

16.5" long 1 in 8" twist 223, I still need to do a metal finish on this barrel as well... & ditch the cheap Simmons scope... I'm waiting on load developement on the 223, until I can replace the Simmons I was not happy with the initial consistancy out of the scope... this barrel is drilled to fit the G-2 fore end, which is what is pictured, as we did a G-2 heavier taper on this barrel... the Weaver base is also machined to fit the "block" & note the bubble level in the 2nd pic, mounted on the Weaver base...

nice

Very, very nice. Did you or he apply for a patent on that block? Before someone steals the idea.
I'd buy one if barrels were available (and if it shoots well).
Pete

thanks...my buddy says there is so much time in machining, "let someone copy the idea"...they are not cost effective to make vrs welding the lugs on like TC & all the other aftermarket barrel producers do :D

so for those that didn't catch it originally, the lug is machined into the barrel block, rather than welded on like a typical barrel

he does 6-8 of them each winter when he doesn't have anything else to do... so far they have only been for his own use ( & I've talked him out of 2 of them for these barrels, & am working on one more for the left over 1 in 9" twist barrel left over from my Hornet revolver project ) he's made them out of several different grades of steel depending on how hot a pressure cartridge gets chambered in them, & has heat treated them accordingly...
