Couple guns on sale at Cabela's

Maybe this is the best Cabela's will do, since Bass Pro acquired them. But I think I'd hold out a while longer. My bet is that they will go below $200 in July, then again in November. Of course, if you just have to have one now, it's not a bad deal either. ;)

I didn't know the bass pro buying cabelas was a done deal ? It will probably mean big price jumps. bass pro prices are the highest around

I don't believe that the Cabelas acquisition by Bass Pros is a done deal yet. Gander Mountain is Caput though, bought up by Camping World?

I didn't realize that Bass Pro ran into some snags. It seems it may still happen this year, but not a done deal. So, Cabelas has no excuse!!! Lower those prices...;)

I just wish Cabela's would carry the 1863 Remington Pocket and the 1862 Pocket Navy/Police made by Uberti.

They only seem interested in carrying the BIG cap and ball guns for some reason.

Any Cimarron dealer can order the 1862 for you. Taylor's seems to be the source for the 1863. Special ordering from a local store can save you the FFL fee but will get you for tax, which you are really supposed to pay regardless. I don't get how Cabela's is the key to shopping for these guns.

The Pietas I saw at Cabela's were not the grade of gun I would want to own, even a beater.

I have the exact opposite experience. I must be getting the cream of the crop from them.

Good to know. What I saw had a flat black finish, which for me was a real turn off. When I checked the bore, the rifling was rough and barely defined. The salesman was not real happy about removing the cylinder to check.

I think that was pretty early on with Pieta making this type of gun, a few years ago, and recall reports that the quality has since improved.

Flat Black Finish? Was that a cartridge pistol? I know Pietta is making a SAA clone called the Rawhide I think. And it has a flat black painted or cerakote finish. Then they make the Frontier series (which is what I have) that is absolutely stunning.

I've only had one issue with a Pietta revolver, an 1851 Navy Yank .36 cal. The loading lever latch was milled to far towards the muzzle, so there was a gap between the spring loaded end of the lever and the latch and I was certain that under fire the latch would unlock and fall.

I drove to the nearest store and replaced it with another model that didn't have the same issue. Didn't like how long it took to get the information I needed and the customer service guy wanted me to pay $10 in sales tax for something I wasn't buying.

I won't ever bother going to a Cabela's store on a Saturday again.

My '58 Pietta had no issues and it works just fine after 2+ years.

Pietta IS the cream of the crop, and they have been for years. The earlier days when they could be a bit lackluster are over. I have not seen a Pietta of any type at any place, including Cabelas, that I would not have rated as "excellent" in several years. Not sure where some people are seeing these "rough guns".

No one is in a position to deny someone else's experience or assessment. The Pieta SAA clone I saw was an economy grade that I found a turnoff. There was also an irregularity in the rifling.

+1 as long as you keep an open mind about product improvements over time, which you did when you said "Good to know". ;)

I am old and retired, but my last 3 Pietta 1851 Navy .36 type BP C&B revolvers were purchased online, sight unseen, in the last 3 years, delivered to my door via UPS or FedEx.

The pistols are all excellent, especially considering the price difference between them and a Uberti pistol. Uberti pistols have always had a short arbor (unlike Pietta) and, unless the Uberti arbor is shimmed to fit the barrel recess lug, there is no way that one can consistently maintain a proper barrel/cylinder gap.

That is a serious accuracy/function thing with BP.

@realgun

Even a beater? It seems that you were looking at 1873 SAA repros, which I have no experience with. My advice is to buy a used Ruger Blackhawk. Good fit, good finish, better design.

The C&B revolvers are very good, fit and finish.

Evidently you had a bad day then or your Cabela's store should be reported to HQ.

I absolutely love my Pietta 1873 Frontier. The thing is beautiful, shoots just as good too and has a transfer bar safety. I also have a early 70's Blackhawk 7.5" in 45 Colt unconverted on layaway at the moment too. Couldn't resist I hada have it.
