Today I went to see about an add in our local sales paper. It was for a Leupold Mark v 4-14.50 Long Range Rifle Scope. The guy was asking $360.00 and stated that it was new still in the box. Of course like anybody would do I jumped all over it. When I arrived at his place and got the scope in my hands I could just tell there was something different then most leupolds I have owned or held. It just did'nt seem like I was holding a $1200 scope in my hands. There was Leupold L logo on one of the windage caps that was slightly off center, that was my first clue. Then in the box was one little piece of paper that had instructions on it. I know that if you buy a scope that's worth anything it will come with at least a 25 page instruction booklet. It had no flip up scope covers just cheep ones with little bunjies. The actual optics looked good, the illumination feature was awsome but I could just tell something was wrong. It had Leupold Mark V on the bottom of the scope and everything. I ended telling the guy I thought it was fake and he got mad and I left with no scope. When I got home I looked it up and it sounds like this starting to be a big problem so Id thought I write about it on here just to get the word out. I had never even thought about a counterfit scope but it looks like something we have start looking out for. If you know scopes you can tell right away. Anyways just throwing it out there watch your backs!!!
