Could we do this?

IANAP , but here's my idea:

Stike 18 U.S.C. 922(o) in it's entirety

Could we persuade some congressman to insert something like that into some must-pass bill, one of the 200-page ones nobody ever reads?

I think that's a better idea than Tyme's. It's so tiny that it could possibly slip through. But my comments about the aftermath would still apply.

It'd be fun, though! :D

Interestingly, Quartus, the Constitution does grant Congress the authority to repeal gun laws (but not to pass them :) ) , namely to provide for the arming of the militia

I maintain that if a bill invalidating state and local weapons laws (without referencing the interstate commerce clause) were passed by Congress and signed, it would be declared unconstitutional by any circuit that took up the issue. Balrog, no judge in the court system would accept the 2nd+14th amendments as authority to nullify state and local weapons laws, at least not until the supreme court rules on it, which a) isn't going to happen unless they're given original jurisdiction and b) they'd probably rule the wrong way.

Well, isn't it obvious that the Congress can repeal a law it previously passed, without any particular reliance on the Constitution?

No, micro. I was addressing you, not Quartus.

The Constitution does not say anything about allowing Congress to repeal laws. It's assumed that Congress has this power. No reliance on the Constitution is necessary.

The moment you start adding words to the United States Code, or repealing certain portitions of an interdependent set of sections in a way that changes the meaning of the other sections, then you have to look for Constitutional authorization.
