Could this be considered libel?

While cruising through the website for the Violence Policy Center, I came across a little section that does its best to convince the world that gun owners are nothing more than a bunch of racist redneck types.
Check out the following link and read it:

I find it rather amusing that they can't stick to the debate at hand, but must resort to name-calling.

At any rate, could something like this be considered libel and/or slander?

If so, well, I think that the people accused of being racists should call their lawyers and start suin'.

Okay, so Wayne opposes "homogenzation" and that is bad...silly me, I thought he was supporting diversity...

Nah, it's very difficult to prove libel against "public figures". You have to prove not merely reckless disregard for the truth, but actual knowlege that the statements were false.

Ironically, they rely on the First Amendment to protect their mischaracterization of the remarks of LaPierre and others, which is protected as an expression of opinion.

Thanks for monitoring this site. I don't have the stomach for it. "If the NRA's leadership, with their new ad campaign, are trying to prove that they are in America's mainstream, then they have failed miserably. NRA officials' extremist rhetoric only proves that racism is still alive and well in the top ranks of their organization," VPC Executive Director Josh Sugarmann said today.

Apparently Mr. Sugarmann does not realize that the first anti-gun laws in this country were directed at freed slaves, and that the poor in our inner cities are the law-abiding Americans most likely to be killed as a result of "gun control" and the attendant rise in prices of guns and ammunition.

Some rights are more equal than others.

Regards.
