Could someone recommend a good 1911 in 9mm?

I'm looking for a reliable 9mm in a 1911-style pistol. Does anyone make such a pistol that's worth owning?

The Springfield Loaded comes in 9mm, as far as I know. I have a Loaded Stainless in .45ACP, and I've been very happy with it....lots of extra goodies for the money, like Novak sights, beavertail, memory groove, and extended safety.

Best of all, it's a traditional single-stack 1911, so you won't have neutered magazines.

I have a pair of Springfields (recent gift), both the full size and the lightweight ultra-compact models.

No complaints with either one. They both ran without failures straight from the box.

Good luck.

My full size 9mm Springfield 1911-A1 is perhaps the funnest firearm I have in my current collection (possibly ever). It has jammed a little with UMC ammo but with Winchester White Box it has been flawless. I got some Chip McCormack .38 Super mags for the hell of it and can now fit one more round in the pistol bringing capacity to 10+1. It is accurate and cheap to shoot with factory ammo. Recoil is nil.

My Ultra Compact in 9mm sadly has not been as reliable but it is a pretty nice piece too.

I originally bought the full size to convert to 9x23 but it is such a great pistol it will stay unmodified for the time being.

blades67,

Have you actually held a Kimber in 9mm? I ask because, recently, I read a report that while they had it their catalog at one time, Kimber never actually made any pistols in 9mm.

Thanks

There aren't that many sold because they have to compete with "real" 9mm pistols, that generally have a lot more features and functionality for the same or lower price - everything from polymer, alloy, or steel frames to reliable high capacity mags, DA/SA and DA/SA/Decocker and hammerless actions, in a wide range of sizes and styles from very compact to big and heavy.

That said, a friend of mine has an 80's Colt in 9mm. It shoots just like a .45 except with a little less recoil.

9mm

I've always liked my Series 70 Mark IV. By changing the slide, barrel and mag I shoot .38 super and .38ACP...

Four or five years ago, Colt's was selling 1991A1 Government Models in 9mm. Supposedly they were an overrun on a Japanese military or police contract. They appear from time to time on the used market. I understand from two people who own them that they are reliable, accurate, and easy to shoot.

Kimber 9mm? That's like an Elvis sighting.... Kimber doesn't make any 9mm guns. And, as far as I know, they've never offered .38 super either. They do make some .40's but only build them two times per calendar year (so you can have a LOOONG wait for one).:D

Kimber made a special edition .38 super through December 2001. I have one, it's a Stainless Gold Match SE II. Absolutely flawless and extremely accurate. Great slide to frame fit and excellent finish. I use 10 round Wilson .38 super mags in it (don't have any problems with the Kimber .38 super mag either). There may still be a few around and I would highly recommend it. :D
