Could someone help with CA shotgun laws?

I know that the current CA shotgun laws are that I just need to go through a background check and wait 10 days for it. There is no 30 day limitation like with handguns and no certification like a BFSC or hunting license is required.

However, I would have to purchase an approved safety lock for it.

What will be the laws for purchasing shotguns in CA next year in 2003?
 
Everything you said was correct, I hate that lock BS :mad: ...I don't think much is going change with shotguns in the new year, but with handguns, big changes, so if you're into them...buy now and buy often. Also consignment guns do not apply to one gun a month law.

What a wonderful f***ing state we live in. :barf:
 
The reason why I'm asking if the laws will be changing next year is because I have limited funds this year and want to pick up a revolver before the year is over and want to get a shotgun next year.

I know with handgun purchase next year my BFSC card will no longer be valid, I'll have to do thumb prints, SSN checks, need utility bills, etc... I have nothing to hide but it's all in principle.

I remember reading that gun locks are not enough next year that it is mandatory to have a safe at home.

I wonder if this is true for both handguns and long guns. Togo through more red tape and having the safe. If that is the case, I better start saving now or just buy on credit before 2003 will be hell.

The problem is that they don't seem to publish the 2003 laws to go into effect or make it readily available or explain it well until 2003 has hit and then they unload on you and say, sorry it's too late now.

I have heard nothing about this so I would be hesitant to believe it.
No changes planned for long guns.
 
I have a friend who works for the NRA, and I've done research on my own.

BUY A HANDGUN NOW. Hell, buy as many as your credit cards will let you!!!

Long guns are pretty much unaffected for next year.

I bought a pistol two months ago in California and I had to sign a DOJ statement telling what brand I was going to keep it in when I got home.
 
Agree on the "buy every handgun you want now" strategy for this #$%^#$% state.

My GF and I just purchased our first ones yesterday (a Walther P99 in .40 for me and a CZ-75 PD in 9mm for her). Can pick them up next Saturday (after 6:01pm)... Yes, for those not familiar with the PRK's laws, you must wait EXACTLY 10 days (to the minute) to claim your purchase.

We've decided to buy the maximum legally possible up through December. After than, not a chance. We'll switch over to long gun purchases in January.

Yes, if you do not wish to buy a lock you have to sign the safe statement. If you do not have a safe then you must buy a approved lock.

No "mandatory to have a safe".....yet
 
PRK legal limit

Airwolf, if you by consignment, PPT, or through pawn shop, there is no legal limit on handguns.

I am working very hard to fill my "want list", the one I gave myself a few years to fill, out BEFORE December now. Unfortunatley, far too may are not on the "approved" list so I'm stuck searching for PPT's that are already here in state.

December 2002 will be the last time I buy a gun in the PRK. Hopefully, I'll find a way out of the state before then.

As for long guns, there are no changes that I am aware of. There is no requirement to own a safe. It's just an option to avoid buying a lock.

Pray we elect a new governor! I hate to think of the crap he will pull if Davis gets in for his last term (term limits).

I'm backed up till October with handgun purchases, and only 2 months more to go :(

Ahhh, I guess its time to look for that "private party" transfer. Anybody got stuff they wanna get rid off (preferably 1911s, Glocks, or S&W revolvers) email me! ;)
