I've been wondering what the real purpose was behind the invasion of iraq (and afghanistan, I've been having doubts on the country's connection to 9/11-none of them were from there!). It seems that bush was so bloody determined to invade that I really wonder about some ulterior motive. I'd REALLY hate to think that this was honestly over the perceived threat of nukes combined with the 'he tried to get my daddy' mindstate. We don't seem to be getting too much of the oil there (aren't most of the pumps not pumpin?)...which leads me to the only thing I can imagine. What if our troops being positioned on both sides of iran isn't a coincidence and all our military actions are just in preparation for a much larger conflict with iran (by letting everyone get warmed up on some easy pickins practise targets...like iraqis.). Iran's a pretty modern country and wouldn't be some pushover like the prevous two. What are our leaders up to? Anyone think I'm getting warm or is it just the tinfoil hat?

sounds like the plot for Team America 2
brilliant!

To be honest it wouldn't surprise me and I'd have to give props for gumption. A+ for effort.
I think they'd see recruiting rates go up.

I like this one

Lots of theories out there (tinfoil hat time!) the one I like currently is that US Intellighnce agencies (?) have predicted that in 6 or 8 years, the ruling Saudi family will be overthrown by radical Islamic group(s), and we needed a country in the region (with oil) that would be frendly to US. By the time this happens, they figure Iraq will be stable and frendly to US.

Plus Bush had a hard on for Saddam anyway.

As for Afganistan, the Taliban (islamic fundamentalists) running the country publically supported Al Queda (the terrorist group that claimed responsibility for the 9/11 attacks), allowing them to operate, and even providing bases and funds. Even though the men who acted on 9/11 were Saudis, they were supported and trained by people supported by Afganistan.

Invading Afghanistan was not about invading the country, but in getting to Taliban groups taking refuge there. bin Laden was there, so why would we look for him anywhere else?

Iraq? Who knows. Bush and his folks went on for months about WMDs and the threat they posed. Then in his address to the US announcing the invasion, he said we were there to liberate the Iraqis from a terrible dictator. I don't know about y'all, but I was fine with the invasion for perceived military purposes. I lost all faith in the validity of the action when he said we would be liberating the Iraqi people. That was a poor justification for the invasion. No doubt most Americans would not have supported invading Iraq to liberate its people. There are people being rules by heavy-handed leaders all over the world, but we don't liberate those people, do we?

Prep for Iran? I doubt it. That would have involved way too much future planning than you would get from the government. With that said, however, the notion of invading Iran may have been an option discussed for future consdieration as action that might later need to be taken, but I don't think the efforts in Afghanistan or Iraq were for the purpose of invading Iran.

Iran/Iraq/Afganistan - all of them really, are just pawns in a much larger chess match.

The real beef is between the US and the European Union.

One thing I've learned over the years is that if there's something going on in the world,,,,look a long way away from it to find out what the real action is all about....

The single greatest threat to the US today is economic.
The single greatest threat to the US dollar, is the Euro.

One thing that's incomprehensible to most people is why it's vital for our survival to be so far in debt and why spendig such an enormous amount on the war in the mid east is the only way to deepen that debt.

The "bedwetting liberals" are all over that one big time with small half truths and typical scare tactics.:barf:

Or, maybe this was all a ruse to get our fighting men "over there" so that the UN Troops could occupy the Homeland.

Lessee:
Afghanistan was a pushover? Last I checked they defeated the Soviet Union!
Iraq was known to be a pushover? Last I checked they had the Third(?) largest standing army in the world; they were reported by the UN and every major intelligence agency in the world to be on the road to becoming a nuclear power. They thumbed their nose at sanctions and bribed entire nations to assist them in building their offensive capability.

Yup, bunch-o-pansies. Easy pickins. Just a warm up for the 2,300+ brave Americans who gave their lives over there.
