My wife and I were looking to live abroad for a few years for kicks and giggles. I have researched a few nations and I came accross two that looked good.
1. Saudi-Arabia. I've been there before(PGW), and really liked the culture, and the feeling of safety that strictly ENFORCED laws bring. While we would make a small fortune there, we really couldn't enjoy much as there isn't much outside of living on the oil company compound.
2. Costa Rica. I never knew much about the place, but on research, Costa Rica looks to be the Libertarian Utopia or at least as close as a government can be. They do have socialized medicine, education, and electricity, but they respect all basic human rights except RKBA, but even then, getting permission to bring in a firearm and up to 500 rounds seems almost automatic (assuming that you have no violent background). They have the highest literacy rate in the western hemisphere, and the lowest crime rate in the western hemisphere. Is this because they don't have millions of laws to inadvertantly break?
Anyway we're looking to live there for up to five years, and our son will be about four years old when we get there. Land seems cheap, water is safe to drink, and along with the 93% literacy rate, they have a mandatory voting requirement of citizens. It is the only nation on earth with no Army. Sounds like a really great place to spend time to us.
If anyone has experience in Costa Rica, please fill me in on the place.
Thanks!
