cost of a remington 870

In Tx it is too expensive.

Do you have your heart set on a 870? If you do look around for a 870P.

If not look into the FN Police from CDNN. They are Win 1300 with 8 round mag tube rifle sights, tapped and drilled for optics and comes with an extra davis speed feed stock. all this for $269 plus $15 shipping.

This is the best defense shot gun deal out there right now IMHO. If I didn't already own an 870P I would own one of these.

i still have time to shop around. i got till Feb-march. that is when i will hopefully be purchasing one. but christmas and my bday are coming up so i don't know. i just might get one for my bday. my cousin was asking me a lot of questions so i think he will tell my mom and she might get one for me. but if not i will still get one. i feel that i would like to have one. most of my friends only have handguns thats why i bought the taurus. i love it, but i would feel much safer with a sg. i do feel safe with the handgun just safer with the shotgun.

$380 is quite high for an 870.

WalMart has the basic 870 express for $238. The local gun stores sell it for roughly $275-300 depending on sales and how well you can talk them down. I wouldn't pay more than that at any time. You can find NIB ones at gun shows around here for $250 usually.

Seeing as this Express has a fixed choke and is synthetic, I think $380 is highway robbery... unless you're talking Canadian dollers ; )

It's cheaper to buy an 870 Express with regular 26" or 28" barrel and then buy an 18" or 20" barrel for it.

My GFs son bought one with 26" barrel, modified choke and black synthetic stock at Dick's Sporting Goods weekend before last. Was on sale for $279.98 less $60 rebate = $219.95 less a $35 gift card. So he ended up paying $185 plus nics ($8?) plus sales tax. (The sale is running again this week, 'till Saturday, but w/o the gift card. Still a great deal. And it's a Remington!

For myself I found myself a 20" barrel some years back for $46 shipped; it may take a few months, but I'll find him one, maybe on the gun forums for less than $80 - $90. I bought a mag extension on a forum for $40 shipped. Was new and all metal made by Choate complete with spring, hi-viz follower and barrel clamp. Then sold the long barrel 'cause I don't hunt. Net cost is much less than what you quote above.

And if you're a horse-trader like me, it's more fun this way. Leaves you more money for ammo or to put toward your next gun.

You've got some time 'till Christmas. Look at the Sunday newspaper ads and subscribe to Shotgun news. Save you a lot of money.

Good luck,

coolridelude,

You can special order a Remington Pump 870 Express for under $300 at any Walmart in the RGV. I did just that, not long ago, at the one on Nolana and 23rd.

Yeah, mine's only a 5-shotter; but heck... I figure it'd do every bit as good as a 7-shot, 18" parkerized 870P MAX in any statistically conforming, real-world scenario.

Or like someone at The Hole In The Wall once said: "If you don't stop 'em with five, what good will seven do?"

LiveWire, i thought walmart couldn't order guns anymore.

the one you order did it have the 18in barrel?

i have searched their website and walmart doesn't have the rem 870 18in barrel on their. I will go check that out.

coolridelude,

Unless something's drastically changed in the last few weeks, you still ought to be able to buy one there. You sure you're not thinking K-Mart? I had no trouble ordering mine. It was as pleasant a transaction as they get (except that the wallies were pretty anal about their need to escort me to my car when I actually picked it up a few days later, what with their fear of liability and that sort of thing. Company policy, I suppose.). But to be positive, I just ran a check on their website, and the SGs look every bit as enticing as they always have. Meaning that their orders are still running hot, I assume.

Mine's a 21", but take my word for it: you hardly notice the extra 3 inches. If anything, it gives you a better sight radius. Besides, the last time I checked out a 870 Police model like the one you posted a link to, it had a fixed cylinder bore. I prefer the flexibility of a removable choke, which is why I opted for the 870 Express. But that's only me. You might have something else in mind.

Mis dos centavos nada más. Hope you find what you want. And when you do, please let us know.

OK, nix what I said about the fixed cylinder bore. Looking at your link again, I realize that it wasn't the Police model you were talking about, but rather the extended Express model. And you're right: Walmart probably wouldn't special order it for you. Not that particular model, anyhow.

Your best bet would probably be to order it through Ray at The Hole In The Wall, or Danny at Danny's Pawn And Sporting Goods. Either one will make your wish materialize at greased lightning speed. But beware: Ray and Danny are not wholesalers. They're in the business to make a profit. Some haggling is in order. Otherwise, and if you're a bit of a penny pincher, consider giving Walmart another look.

Another place I like is Guns & Goods in Harlingen. Check 'em out. You won't be disappointed. The only question here, of course, is how far you are willing to travel.

:D

i will try both and Harlingen. i am a
penny pincher
because i go to college:D . i will check it out.

Live wire, can you tell me the number of the model you got from walmart?
Please point me in the right direction?
21inches sound fine to me with the right price.

i still can' find the 21in on the net? help?
that might be the best way to go.

Glad to oblige. Here are a few that I thought you might be interested in. The top one is the model that I bought. It comes with an extra-full choke; but you might want to replace it with an improved cylinder choke, as I did. That way it becomes your home defense and short-range medium game weapon first. Besides, it's the only choke Remington recommends if you're shooting rifled slugs or 00 buck, should you decide to go that route. Later, if you wish, you can put the factory choke back in and hunt the small game. Either way, you get the best of both worlds. Hope this helps.

thanks livewire, that is very helpful.

i have another question do all of the have removeable chokes?

for the stock i will want to replace them with specops stock so i was wondering if it is wood or Synthetic are they easy to take off the stock?

i like the last one, can i take off the stock and replace it or should i just go with Synthetic?

i would replace the stock but i like the wood on the handle were you cock it. it looks cool, why would someone want an ugly gun.

can you shoot buck shots and slugs out of that gun? if i get the improved cylinder choke can i shoot buckshots? i think i will get one from wally world. thanks LiveWire.

It pays to shop around, and you'd find a good deal in non-gunstores. Today, I was at the local Big 5 Sporting Goods store and saw a basic Express at $266.
