Pat Tillman, United States Army Ranger was killed in combat. He lost his life in a Eastern Afghanistan. Pat was assigned to the 2nd Bat. 75th Rangers, Fort Lewis, Washington. We knew Pat as a Arizona Cardinal NFL football player whom walked away from that to join the US Army. The media has and continues to report he was killed by friendly fire. This takes nothing from the bravery in combat that Pat had shown. Pat was awarded the Siver Star and the Purple Heart. The Army also awarded him rank increase to Corporal.

"While many of us will be blessed with a longer life, few of us will ever live a better one" -Senator John McCain, Arizona.

While we continue our support of all soldiers, marines, airmen, sailors, and anyone trying to make our lives and lives of others in this world better; we remember those who gave their lives for such a noble cause.

Pat's unselfish actions and valor will be remembered. His memory will live long and strong and motivate others young and old alike......

Rest in peace.... Ranger

Wasn't aware he was awarded the silver star or promoted up a rank. What were the circumstances for the medal?

Medal and my thoughts........

To be down right honest about it, this hero should have received a Soldier's Medal for non-combat-related heroism. He was shot and killed by Ranger weapons fire. A number of command and communication issues snowballed into this tragic incident. According to reports I have read the Pentagon issued this 3rd highest medal within a week of the incident. We must remember the brass also gave Jessica Lynch some high rated medals. She stated she never fired a shot and was knocked out cold in the attack on her vehicle. The Army did take action against some of the Ranger's in command positions. I have read a lot of different reports from different media persons. I read with caution and conclude one thing. Pat Tillman was a damn good American Soldier and a hero in my eyes. What medal they gave to Pat's parents don't bring that son back to life. The parents deserve much more than a small medal. It does serve reminder to their lost son's bravery and loyalty to country.

Pat Tillman is one of few who sacraficed a lucrative career for what he believed in, in all honesty how many of us would have done the same. I think it is especially unique considering the way youth today has been brainwashed by the media and the left. Patriotism and sacrafice seem to be a dying belief for America's youth and it isnt because they are bad, but look at the way they are indoctrinated by the education system and media. Pat Tillman was a true patriot and even if he didnt die in a heroic act of combat, he is still a hero for the example he set to our youth and America. I am sure he influenced many to join up and to rethink their commitment to our country. The Pentagon seems to caught up in a PR campaign, but considering the media and the left's constant lies and negative press towards the war and military they feel have to do somthing right or wrong. Pat Tillman needs to be remembered for the true patroit he was, his commitment to freedom, security of America and the sacrafice's he made. Sadly there are many hero's never recognized by the media or Pentagon to Tillmans extent, anyone who served this country and especially those that died need to be recognized as their death is no smaller to loved ones and to America than Pat Tillmans, its just who he was and what he gave up to join due to his convictions that made him unique. The Pentagon and or Government need to make a memorial not just for Pat Tillman but all gulf war vets as this is a volunteer military and these people are doing it by choice.

I agree with The Soldiers Medal post . If you ever noticed the scoring at the Olympics you might have noticed an oddity . Those that compete first will almost always receive a lower than expected score . Reason is that if they get a big honkin' score there is no room for a really better performance . If the first competetor gets a 5.9 the next better score would be 6.0 . So assume that the second person does do better . They MUST get the perfect 6.0 . Now what happens when the third person comes on and blows the other 2 away ??? Therefore we must take care to maintain the levels in our medals . Otherwise we will be forced to bestow the CMH just for joining . I realize that this is a gross exaggeration but does show the point .He joined ,he fought , he died . That's more than anyone reading these posts has done . We owe them all . You might DO more than he did BUT you can't GIVE more .As Lincoln said "We cannot dedicate , we cannot consecrate , we cannot hallow this ground ............ "

Thanks

Thanks Paratrooper and Freedom........ You both have added a touch of class and thought to this post.

God Bless America....... Land That I Love........
