I have narrowed down my choices for a self defense round for my 357 magnum revolver this is a 4 in gun btw. I'am going to go with either the 125 grain or 140 grain loads from corobn. These seem to be good rounds and I love corbons stuff it's all I use in my 9mm glocks and I use to use it in my s&w 640 before I switched to the winchester 158 +p lead semi wadcutter load.

I have always found thair ammo to be very accurate as well as mild in recoil even from a j-frame revolver. I also find it to have the least ammount of muzzle flash even in low light conditions of any defense load I've tried and i've tried almost all of them.

My question for you guys is who here uses either of these loads in thair 357 magnums and why? Also which is better as far as performance i.e. penetration, expansion? What is a better load as far as 357's go? Is lighter loads faster then the heavier loads like the 140 grain?

I was thinking the 140gr. may be better for defense because it looks like it moves slower as far as the numbers tell and slower is better because its not likely to over peneatrate as much as the 125gr. load.

And my last question is if anyone here has test data for either of these loads and thair performance please let me know please. Thanks in advance for any help.

The 125gr load will not overpenetrate, its light weight and high velocity allow it to expand aggresively and penetrate to a shallower depth. Some even say, and has also been documented, that it doesn't penetrate enough. It does provide a high amount of energy dump into the target though. Either load should be good, with the 140gr load going a little deeper.

I use the 140 gr laod because after testing both 140's shoot better in my weapon so by a box of each and test them out.
