Cor-Bon .45 LC "Magnum" +P

Anyone out there have any experience with this loading from Cor-Bon?

It's a 265-gr. JHP that runs out at almost 1400 fps according to the literature I've seen.

I just bought a New Model Blackhawk to use as my backpacking gun, and was looking at this as a possibility for fodder versus four-legged critters (or two-legged, as the case may be).

Thanks in advance.

I've had a lot of experience with it. It is loaded at 1350fps, not 1400.
All of the 45COLT+P loads were designed for RUGER sixguns. These guns will gobble it up like popcorn.
The velocity stated is from a RUGER BISLEY 7 1/2" sixgun.
Very powerful and effective hunting loads with markedly less recoil than a 44MAGNUM churning up the same power[ and few do...].
The RUGER BLACKHAWK 45COLT is the epitome of a factory built lightweight big-bore trailgun. I also know of one sheriffs department that issues this very gun to the deputies.TM

Thanks, Terry.

I got the 5 1/2" barrel on my gun instead of the 7 1/2". It'll be a lot easier to make a pouch on my backpack for it that way.

Also, it's been my experience that Cor-Bon understates their velocities by 5-7% or so, so while the box states 1350, I seem to recall reading a report that had it right about 1400.

At any rate, I am going to buy that box, shoot one cylinder full through the gun, and set the rest of it aside for trail fodder.

I've got some CorBon .357 125 gr. +P which the box says is rated at 1450fps. When I fired it out of my 6" 586, I clocked it at 1604fps!
The load stung my hand when fired from the Smith. However, the same load, when fired from a Taurus 605 (2 1/8" ported barrel) with Barami HipGrips, was not too bad. It wasn't fun, but it wasn't painful, either. Go figure.

My take on .45 Colt "magnum" loads is: if you want a magnum, why not get an actual magnum? I find that one of the joys of shooting .45 Colt is that you can put a big, heavy bullet with a pretty good amount of power out there without having to suffer tremendous recoil and muzzle blast. Just my personal opinion.
