Cops should be forced to return to revolvers

If I ever become a police chief, mayor, governor, or supreme ruler, I will take all officer's glocks and return to the "good aiming good thinking" days of revolvers. I already have a model picked out, the Taurus model 617 .357 7 shot. This would save the taxpayers (slaves) millions, and end the way the cops turn our neighborhoods into shooting galleries, firing hundreds of rounds that pepper our homes every time some suspect they're chasing puts his car in reverse and bumps a patrol car. Once one starts pulling the trigger, on an adrenaline/testosterone high, they all tend to join in  and before anyone knows it, they're already finishing their second magazine. Usually, the suspect gets hit once or twice, but dozens of shots are just "unaccounted for" (until I walk in my kid's bedroom and see one in the wall  ).

When you only have 7 rounds, and have to cock it for a lighter trigger pull, you tend to think before you shoot. Several times this year, in various cities around the country, cops have even shot many rounds at fleeing vehicles  . Every "investigation" always magically concludes that "department policy" was not violated. Since "department policy" and unfortunately the law, seems to allow cops to do whatever they want as long as they "felt" threatened, and until we change the law, a little "reasonable gun control" for the badged elite seems in order.

They would claim they would be "outgunned" with revolvers, but since revolvers inherently encourage better aiming habits, and criminals are even more careless than the worst of today's cops, we all can only be safer by changing them back to revolvers.

I have one of these and love it.

I don't entirely disagree with you, I think they would be better off with revolvers for the reasons you gave. I think there is this spray and pray line of thinking (at least subconciously) among some cops (as well as a lot of other people out there) and if nothing else the temptation exists. Seeing Keanu Reeves in Matrix spraying bullets all over the place killing everyone within a 100 yard radius tends to make you feel like "one shot per person just isn't enough.) Whether they are regulated to only revolvers are not, personally I think the cop ought to carry what he is comfortable with (whether that be a revolver only or both revolver and auto).
Personally, if I had my way, I would probably issue something like a plain jane model 10 and let them get what they want with their own money if they want or I would just not issue any guns and require them to get their own revolver and get an auto for a backup gun if the choose.
But I think that this doing away with revolvers as service weapons entirely is based on the "need a lot of bullets" line of thinking.

Blaming the gun for a training issue. Hmmmm. Sounds familar. A lot like some other groups. Yup, typical anti activity.

You caught me, I was just doing a little posting before Jim wakes up and I have to change his diaper :D

Thank God you'll never be in charge of anything.

Hey, I got in your head so I must be in charge of more than U think ;)

1. Clearly you have never worn a badge.
2. PD's don't (and never will) issue a Taurus product.
3. I'll bet in your head you are the supreme ruler.

Wait- are you saying you want the law and department policy changed so they DON'T have to feel threatened? That sounds like a plan.

Ignorant post. Gotta lot to learn about police, police policy, and police practice.

Clearly you are what you described my post as because you couldn't tell me in the slightest where I was wrong. I'm obviously not incorrect about police carrying revolvers looooong before Gaston came along, and anyone here who reads the news knows that I was dead smack on concerning police behavior. No wonder your post was so short :D

Wait- are you saying you want the law and department policy changed so they DON'T have to feel threatened?
Yea that's exactly what I'm saying, I want them to be able to unload on people MORE than they already do :whatever:

Since the obvious just isn't enough for some people, I'll put it this way: the standard of deadly force for government employees needs to be changed so that there has to be an ACTUAL threat present, as opposed to the officer's subjecive "feelings" that change from minute to minute and from officer to officer, and are getting a lot of innocent civillians (but who cares about them right?) killed for holding cell phones and hairbrushes.

Well if "Tookie" had not started the crips...

They were using autos and killing more people then the police, so the police needed to get guns so they could protect themselves.

Round and round. One way to send the message is to train the Police to shoot less and more accurate, but they don't have the funds for that. Why? Because they are out doing PR work trying to have all the gang members be good citizens while reading the books Tookie wrote.:D

If you are naive enough to believe you need to disarm the Police so they will shoot less, more power to the training aspect and a little less PR is what is needed. Working as a Police officer the last thing you need is good relations with the gang members who are killing innocents as we write.

Heck of a thread hope it does not get shut down.

Masterpiecearms,

While I tend to agree there needs to be accountability for the rounds fired, I think they should be as well equipped as possible. How would you like it if I told you to give up all your semi autos since revolvers will make you a better shooter? The police should be allowed to carry what they can qualify with but they had better be held accountable for every shot they fire!

I will admidt the militarization of the police is uncomfortable, but I have no problem with them useing the best pistol available.

..while I would not necessarily change all PD from autos to six-guns..I think anyone who automatically thinks that a person holding an auto always beats a six-gunned person has a simple-mind(like watching too many movies)that is a script, not real-life......if I became a cop I would be no less satisfied with a good revolver than an automatic...I would be pleased with either...but if you insist on mo' power..a 357 will always best the ever-popular 9 street-popper.

If that's your stance, then why not a muzzle loader? Gotta aim realy well for that shot. All that time to cock, prime and fire will give you more time to think if it really is the right time to shoot.
