Sounds like another Suicide-by-Cop story. *sigh*

Cops shoot dead Colorado man wielding fake gun
The Associated Press
LYONS, Colo. (August 29, 2000 5:50 p.m. EDT http://www.nandotimes.com) - Sheriff's deputies fatally shot a man who aimed a pistol-shaped cigarette lighter at them and threatened to shoot, authorities said.
Dispatchers received an anonymous 911 call early Tuesday claiming an officer was down, said Sheriff's Deputy Steve Treacle. Two deputies checked the area, and all sheriff's deputies were found to be safe.
Shortly after the call, at 5:23 a.m., dispatchers received a report of a man with a gun on the porch of a home on the same street as where an officer had been reported injured.
As two deputies approached the house, a man on the porch started walking toward them. When the deputies saw what they believed to be a handgun, they repeatedly ordered him to stop and drop his weapon, Treacle said.
The man, Eric Vantslot, 30, then raised the object, pointed it at one of the deputies and said they would have to shoot him or he would shoot them. The deputies fired, injuring Vantslot, who was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
Investigators later learned the object he claimed was a weapon was a cigarette lighter that resembled a semiautomatic handgun.

As seen in Atlanta's AJC, The Vent: "Let it be known that in this great metropolitan area that you might be able to get away with murder, but you'd better not bash a mailbox."
