I thought I found the perfect pistol in H&K until I came upon the Coonan Arms 1911 in 357 mag. Wow! The H&K is the Mercedes, but the Coonan Arms is pure Corvette. A 357 mag semi-auto in 1911 form with your choice of 5 or 6 inch barrel. There is clearly no lack of flash and bang with this master blaster.

I have never considered pistols sexy nor did I ever believe a pistol could increase my macho. The Coonan is pure sexy and makes your macho level increase. Its a firearm that deserves a professional photographer to bring out its awesome looks. It looks like a movie pistol the kind that is on Miami Vice or a zombie movie.

With so much blast and kick I wonder if this can be a tactical piece or even a target shooter. It might just be good for pistol hunters. One thing for sure. It puts a smile on your face.

They're kinda pricey though. Nice looking piece.

I think if I wanted that much oomph out of a 1911, I'd buy another Para Expert and the $300 drop-in 460 Rowland kit and call it a day. It's a daily struggle to NOT do exactly that. :) Of course, that gets you into 44mag territory so it's even more muzzle flash/energy/etc.

Coonan's are fun! I have one of the originals, the Model A.

If you want the most flash and bang from a 1911 style pistol, go get an LAR GRIZZLY in .44 Mag or .45 Win Mag!

I've had a Grizzly for about 25 years now. They are a blast to shoot, but getting hard to find ammo for if you don't reload. Getting parts is also just about impossible now too. I have a dual recoil spring system in mine and a barrel mounted compensator.

They will make you start to lean sideways after carrying one all day though. :D

With roughly the same barrel lengths its the Desert Eagle, The Wildey, The Auto Mag, The LAR Grizzly and last the Coonan for weight.

And I know what I'm talking about here, I've packed them all.
:D

Can this pistol be carried and used tactically? 1911 style pistols have been carried and used for many decades. Ive seen officers carry it as their sidearm of choice, the LAPD swat uses a Kimber 1911 and the USMC I believe also uses a Kimber 1911. Countless soldiers have used 1911 style pistols all over the world. Various large frame revolvers have been carried and used. So big pistols can be carried and used.

Can I carry and use this pistol tactically? No, but its mainly because Im getting old. I dont believe this will conceal well for obvious reasons. I hurt my hand firing it, but it sure was fun.

I love my Coonan! I have both a 5 inch and a 6 inch barrel for mine. I also have rattle snake skin grips and a Jackass style (only it holds 4 mags +1 mag in the gun) shoulder holster for it.

Open carry with it is not bad but CCW is harder unless you have a coat on. I have not tried to carry on the waist band because frankly I hate to carry that way.

I carried my Coonan for the short range deer hunt this year but unfortunately we only saw female so I could not harvest one. There is still the land owners hunt later this year may be ill get one then.

I notice an order sheet on their website for different options, but I think if you called them up and were willing to pay they will make it to your liking. I know I have a few special requests in that regard.
