converting mauser

Hi Smithy

I have a 1909 Peru mauser action on a target rifle. It has been made into a single shot 22-250. As the bolt is opened you can only see wood. There is no floor plate. Is that what you call it? Any way I would like to convert it back to magazine fed if possible. Is there a problem w/ 22-250 ammo feeding? What kind of a clip would I use? It is a nice rifle w/bull barrel and very accurate.It has no sights now since I took off the lyman super target scope. Is it worth the trouble?

If it is a 98 Mauser with a reciever ring of 1.4 inches in dia all you need is a Mauser guard assembly.
It is worth doing. You might need a spacer in the magazine for feeding but I doubt it - I never did. You can even use thr present stock unless someone has buggered it up.
Mausers are my favoriye action.

What you'd need are a Model 98 Mauser trigger guard, a set of action screws, a floor plate, a magazine follower, and a magazine spring.

Since there are slight differences in Model 98 Mauser actions, measure the distance between the front and rear action screws and buy an assembly with the same spacing.
You do NOT have to have an assembly made specifically for a 1909 Peruvian rifle. Many others will fit properly.

As Harry says, find a Mauser milled magazine assembly or a cast magazine assembly from Numrich and have the stock inletted for it, or you can buy an inletted blank and finish it yourself, if you are so inclined. Magazine spacers are not necessary, I have 2 Mausers in 22-250, one with the other without. No problems feeding with either one.

The Peruvian Mausers were pretty good actions. The only thing I usually change on military Mausers is the bolt shroud (replace with FN style) and a good trigger.
