Converting a Revolver into a Hammerless?

I recently purchased a S&W .38 special titanium snub revolver. Bought it because I needed a pocket pistol, and because this one available and for a decent price. The only downside to it is that the gun has a hammer, and I was a bit worried about the hammer snagging, or catching, on clothing, etc. So I asked the owner, and he assured me that if I wanted, I could always buy a hammerless hammer for the gun and swap it in. In a sense, convert it into a hammerless model, is this possible to do, and if so, where can I buy the parts and/or the smithing work to do it?

My second question is, what are the best pocket holsters I can purchase for this gun? I am going to be carrying this gun at work, and I don't want any obvious printing. What are the most effective holsters available for this?

Also, I would like to swape the rubber grips out with some less bulky wood ones, where can I purchase good wood replacement grips at a reasonable price? Thanks.

Brownells should have the hammer and probably a good set of slim wood grips...id give them a call and see what they have...any local smith should be able to install it for you. Wouldnt recomend it to do it yourself unless you have experience in taking a smith revolver apart...some of them can be a little..."tricky"

Might want to try midwayusa.com for the grips too

I’m not that familiar with all the Smith variations so please check the website listed and search for your model smith. If Brownell’s has it you can order it and replace it yourself if you feel comfortable with that. I didn’t see any bobbed hammers for revolvers on that page but you can do it yourself with a Dremel tool to cut the spur off and polish the hammer. I have heard of others doing this and the resulting hammer fall is not enough to reliably fire the primer. Thus if you have a spare hammer that you have ordered to play with if there are problems your gun is not DOA.

Another way around the problem is to learn to draw the gun with your thumb on the spur thus blocking any material from catching on the spur.

I suggest it be returned to S&W. It is not a simple operation. Give it to the experts. Your warranty will still be in force. www.eaglegrips.com Secret Service grips are what you are seeking. Look for TFL member Azrael for pocket holsters. Quality.

Does this guy make a good pocket holster?

Solidly constructed of a lightweight moisture resistant material, Mika's Pocket Holsters offers superior reliability and accessibility over conventional leather holsters. The primary failing of the leather holster is that it retains moisture causing the handgun to stick as well as marring the surface of the handgun. For your own safety as well as your handgun's safety go with Mika's Pocket Holsters.

I wonder if anyone makes any kydex pocket holsters??
