Convert 226 to .40?

Anyone know about what it would cost to convert a 9mm Sig 226 to 40S&W? I thought it would be nice to have a .40 slide and barrel and maybe even a .357sig barrel. I'm assuming that the frame is the same for the 9mm and the 40S&W. Where would I look for this? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Good luck finding a slide. You need the stainless slide to handle the .40 pressures. I don't know of anyone selling just the slide and if someone does, you're better off buying an entire new gun with the price.

The answer is either (1) no can do or (2) you could buy a new pistol for less. At a minimum, you'd need a new slide complete, barrel, and probably the locking block. I don't recall the cost of a complete slide...IIRC, the price of a stripped slide is ~$350, the barrel ~150...the breech block is very expensive also, although I forget how much. This is only reasonable if you start with a .40 or .357 pistol to start with and try to convert either to the other cartridge or to 9x19.

Well, it didn't cost anything to ask. Thanks guys, I guess I'll just have to be happy with the 226 the way it is. Your replies were much appreciated.

Just got a Sig Pro 2340 in .40S&W for $439. It shoots as well as my P226, and from the sound of things in the above posts, probably costs about the same as a conversion. It can be easily (but not cheaply) switched to .357 SIG, but I haven't looked into that yet. .40S&W ammo is relatively cheap and readily available. Not sure what is to be gained with .357 SIG. (But I'm always open to discussion.)
