Conversion Barrel In Glock 23

Anyone have experience using a 9 mm conversion barrel in a Glock 23. I've been considering this because of the lower cost of 9 ammo. I have been looking at Lone Wolf barrels. I've read I wll need Glock 17 mags. Any other mods needed? This would be for range use only. but would still like reasonable reliability and accuracy.

Not quite what you want, but i put a Lone Wolf 40-9 barrel in my G35. I also put a Lonewolf barrel in one of my G23's but not a 40-9 conversion.

I use 9mm mags with the 40-9 conversion, no other changes to the gun. So far its been flawless. The barrel in my G23 has also been 100%.

You can use 17 mags, but they won't be flush. You'd want 19 mags.

Never had any issues running a 23-19 conversion barrel in my 23.

I use a Storm Lake 9MM conversion barrel in my G23 along with G19 magazines and it runs 100%. I bought the G19 extractor and ejector originally but it ran perfect without them so I never bothered to install them. Two guns in one and the G23 is SO much better nicer to shoot in 9MM than it is in .40S&W, IMHO.

Another thumbs up for the lone wolf .40 to 9 mm conversion barrel. Using 9 mm mags and ~500 rounds I've never had a malfunction. Seems to be as accurate as the stock .40 cal barrel.

I have a bit of problem shooting light 9mm loads with a 40-9 conversion barrel in my glock 23. The slide doesn't lock back 100% of the time after the last round in the Mag. It is possible that the pistol short strokes. The barrel has thicker wall.

I have a ported extended Lone Wolf 40-9 conversion barrel for my G27. Not exactly the same as you're doing but close enough. Extremely accurate. I don't even bother with the 9mm mags. I just use the G27s stock .40 mags and load em with 9mm. Never a malfunction, jam etc. Only use for the range though.

It uses the same rsa.
They do. But that is the point.

The conversion barrel is heavier than either the 40 s&w barrel or the 9mm barrel. Same spring but heavier barrel, and hence short stroking with light load.

There are after market lighter spring. But I didn't bother to try. Just don't shoot light loads, or live with the fact that it may not lock back slide reliably.

Tangolima, first time I heard of a heavier barrel causing short stroking. But I suppose more energy is expended to drop/unlock the barrel. This was with light reloads? I can't say that I've seen this come up in factory ammo.

Hopefully this won't cause the OP problems as he is switching to 9mm for lower ammo cost, which I think means he does not reload... yet :)

"Light loads"... I betting that these loads would not function a full size gun with a standard slide either. Like a G17 or a Sig 226. If the small added weight of the barrel (how much extra weight is there, BTW?) causes the 23 to hiccup then the load prob wont cycle the extra weight of the heavier/longer slide

Does anybody know the weight difference between a G19 barrel and a 40-9 conversion barrel? Im betting its the same (or VERY close). The 40-9 conversion is going to have "thicker walls" because the bore diameter is smaller. The outside diameter is the same, so it will fit in the slide.

But a direct weight comparison G19 vs G23 40-9 would answer that issue

My digital scale will not read this much weight but on my analog scale, I weighed the factory G23 barrel at 3.8 ounces. The Storm Lake conversion barrel weighs 4 ounces.

I will also note that I'm using light 9MM loads as well. 4.2gr of WSF under a 125gr FP bullet. Starting load for this powder and bullet weight is 4.0gr and max is 4.7.

Thanks!!... So .2 ounces between the calibers. Anybody got a stock G19 barrel to weigh?

My G19 has the factory threaded barrel, so its got more stickin out the end. Not a good comparison

ETA. The more i think about it maybe my barrel IS a good comparison. Longer G17 length, and heavier then a G19 barrel, but works flawlessly with a G19 slide.

Yeah, if the longer/heavier threaded barrels work then its got to be an ammo problem if the above poster is having issues

I use a LW 9mm conversion barrel in a Glock 23. I also changed the extractor, and use Glock 19 magazines. I didn't change the recoil spring, but I did change out some parts related to the firing pin and spring. I don't recall exactly what those were, at the moment.

I shoot 9mm cast lead exclusively, 125 grain bullets, with a moderate amount of Unique.

Haven't had a single malfunction, after about 600 rounds fired. In fact, this setup seems less prone to malfunctions than firing 40 S&W out of it as a stock Glock 23. I've found the set up to be very accurate and reliable. I recommend it highly.

Following up on my old thread. Received my 9mm Lone Wolf barrel for G23. Took it to the range today. I put 100 FMJ rounds and 20 HP through it without an issue. Accuracy may be a little better my stock 40 barrel. Thanks to all that replied.

I have a Gen 3 Glock 23 and a Lone Wolf 9mm Barrel. If it is a Gen 3 Glock all you need is the barrel and mags and it shoots perfectly (actually is more accurate then the Glock barrel...)

If it is a Gen 4 they have different springs so you would need to buy the spring, barrel and mags.

Also works great with the.357 sig barrel btw.

I've never tried the 40 to 9 Lone Wolf barrels, but I've been tempted to get one.

I have a 27 I put a 357 Sig barrel in (non Wolf), worked great. Might just have to pick up a 9mm for it.

I'll second getting a 357 Sig barrel for the 40. Rounds cost a bit more, if you can find them, depends on area. 9mm is cheaper.....great for practicing.
