Conventional & Less Conventional Methods for Carrying Knives in Lieu of Handgun(s)

Hello Everyone,

My studies in the use of the knife as applied in Kali and Silat have me contemplating the carrying of more than one knife or a matched pair of small to medium sized knives in lieu of my normal carry pistols.

For those of you who carry more than one knife in lieu of you handgun(s) what are your preferred carry locations and concealment methods?

I realize that everyone's situation can differ so I am not looking for a specific solution to my situation, but rather would like to hear what has worked for others approaching the same problem. While my experience in carrying handguns concealed is rather extensive as I have done if for many years, my experience in carrying knives ends essentially with the typical 3-4 inch combat folder clipped to the pocket that so many of us rely on.

Thank you for your input.

I prefer a fixed blade (maybe 8inch overall length) with the scabbard clipped inside the waistband just ahead of the hip, but that requires slightly baggier clothes than some people like.
Used to have a pair of pants with a hole in the inside the cargo pocket to access a KaBar clipped to a knee brace (knee injury not necessarily included).

you can CC big blades in Texas?

In VA, has to be a folder with less than a 3inch blade for it to be concealed.

I used to carry a Cold Steel tanto with approx 6inch blade where my handgun is now (4oclock IWB). When im in the Dominican Republic thats what I carry being that im not a resident... Comes out easy and quick and I know how to use it (mostly :p).
No substitute for handgun though. Ive heard cops really dont like CC knives, being that more people are killed with knives then guns (so I hear).

I carry a pretty large K-bar horizontally on my back few belt loops, If i ever run out of ammo in a situation,(I seriously doubt this would ever happen but hell i can barely feel it so why not) so i wont be completely unarmed....

I carry a 3" Gerber with a clip in my back pocket next to my wallet every day. I typically only remove my firearm when going to a Gov't building or somewhere where I'll be searched/frisked. For those times, the Gerber gets clipped up front, on the denim jeans behind the belt with the actual knife IWB. No body frisks me that closely (though I don't think I'd mind it :D )....

I carry a Bob Dozier Straight Personal knife (around 3" blade) in his horizontal kydex sheath, worn at 11:00, so it can be drawn cross draw with the strong hand or with a reverse grip with the weak hand. It is carried as a tool, but if my gun were to give out, it could be quickly and easily accessible for last ditch defense.

Nope. 5.5" maximum blade length (unless you're going to or coming from a legitimate hunt or fishing trip). And, to echo a previous sentiment, knives are no substitutes for firearms.

I keep a pocket knife to protect myself against any stray cardboard boxes that need opening, or any malevolent fruit that might be in need of peeling or quartering.

Why would you take a knife to a gun fight???

What he said.

I carry a knife in ADDITION to a concealed handgun, not in lieu of.

I have never drawn my handgun in self defense, but I have used my knife to fend off some particularly ornery apple peels. Also handy when your kids need a toy unwrapped. Getting a toy out of its packaging is as close to hand to hand combat as you can get! Some of those packages are down right brutal!

The only blood my knife has ever shed has been my own
