Ha! Bet you all thought I'd croaked, or was in a coma or something. Well no such luck for all of you. I'm not going to punch out yet, not for a long time yet anyway! But thats another story for another time.
I feel really bad about not keeping you all up to date with my exploits on my J-22. I could have had my better half log on here and keep you guys informed on the latest progress(?)with that sweet little shooter. But alas, unlike me, she knows next to nothing about guns. I just didn't feel right, trusting her to get all the facts straight. And you all know what a fanatic I am about detail! I sure wouldn't want to get all of you confused on what was going on!
To bring you all up to date on the J-22's progress so far goes as follows. That gun smith that was recommended to me by my gun dealer, really I think did an outstanding job on the J-22! With just a few minor glitches, which I'll get to later, I'm really pleased with his work. At first I was concerned with his bill, but my gun dealer assured me that $1,956.38 was more than a fair price to pay for all the modifications made to the J-22. After all, he told me that if he hadn't had a good relationship with his brother-in-law, the gun smith, the price would have been much higher. I hadn't thought about that and was glad I had taken his advice and not gone out on my own to get the work done. Its hard to say how much I could have been "taken to the cleaners" had I went somewhere else. I just can't say enough good things about my gun dealer! And now through him, I have an expert gun smith to go to for all my needs!
Now for all the tech. stuff that you've all been waiting for! The two inch, screw in barrel extention has done wonders for the accuracy of my little jewel! The gun is far more accurate than I am. Most of the time it will shoot 2ft groups at 15ft. That is, if I can hold her steady! With the conversion to .22mag, it sure is a jumpin little devil! Especially when it goes into full auto! Haven't got that one figured out yet. I've been working on my trigger control to see if that might help. That custom fabricated double-stack mag full of 50rnds of ammo sure don't last long at full auto! That barrel extention is ported and should reduce the muzzle flip alot, but when screwed in all the way the holes in the barrel are all pointing down. I've tried putting a bunch of washers on the barrel and then tightening it down, but then my accuracy falls way off! Another minor problem to be worked on. I had to take the laser sight off. More correctly it fell off from all the recoil shock. Well, really all the internal parts and such just kind of turned into a mess of mush! I'm checking on the warenty of that laser sight now to see if I can get it replaced. I've got to get a fire-proof material to replace the grips also. It seems that when that little jewel goes to full auto for 50rnds, it gets quite hot and really hard to hold on to. In fact, the first couple of times it happened, I just had to drop it like real quick! This isn't good on any gun, much less the precision made quality of the J-22! My gun smith told me to keep a bucket of used motor oil handy and to just drop the gun in it when it got to hot to hold on to. By doing this, it would have the effect of heat treating all the metal in the gun and making it even harder. I would have never thought of this. There is a downside to this method though. When I drop that cherry-red J-22 in the oil, the oil bursts into flame. Thats why those nice pecan wood grips need replaced with something a little more substantial. Any ideas on what I should use?
Thats about it for now. When my hands heal up better, maybe I can type faster and get back to you all sooner with the latest updates. Oh, and that .22mag ammo is getting expensive to shoot up at the rate I'm going. Are there ways any of you know how I can load my own??
