Contender hammer won't lock back

I put a used 14" 7-30 Waters barrel on my G2 frame and now I cannot cock back the hammer. I checked everything, compared it to my other barrels, and I do not see anything out of the ordinary.

It sounds like the locking bolts aren't moving back into the frame far enough. Are the locking bolts the split or solid style? If it is the only barrel that does this you can try cleaning first, then if still a no-go you'll have to stone some steel off the top of the bolts, or order a new set of locking bolts. If you decide to stone them, it doesn't take much so work slowly and re-try it often. Some older barrels need a little massaging to mesh with newer frames, and vise-versa.

The locking bolts are the split kind. I did exchange the bolt from one of my other barrels and the hammer still won't come back. The barrel does lock in place.

If it doesn't work with all barrels...

The your problem in inside the frame (hammer, sear, etc.) and it needs a smith that knows what he is doing.

I have heard of problems with some barrels and frames, but never see one myself. Usually I hear of barrels that won't unlock. Youir problem sounds like something worn/broken (or possibly just fouled too dirty -you can hope) in the lockwork. T/Cs are not terribly complicated guns, but they are not a beginning tinkerer's project either. I recommend professional help. You might even call the factory, your G2 can't be that old,, might it still be under warrenty?

The gun works fine with my other barrels. Everything looks the same on this barrel, but I am wondering if it is just a little out of spec that it won't allow the hammer to be pulled back. I have been hearing of issues with the TC guns, even the products that have come out of the Custom Shop.

If it works fine with your other barrels it's time to contact T C as long as your haven't modified anything they should take care of it. Please let us know how you make out. You might also try checking at specialty pistols forums a lot of good info there from people that are really into T C's good luck Alex

The little lug on the right does the work with the hammer cock disconnect. I would take your working barrel and use a magic marker to mark the top side of the little locking lugs then close and open the action a couple of times until the contact wears the marker off on top of the lugs. You should see the marker scraped off where the lug goes under the shelve in the receiver make note of how far the right one goes in. The left one can lock the barrel but the right one will not be in far enough to kick off the hammer cock disconnect. Then do the new barrel lugs to see if it goes as far as the working one. :)

I filed off the lugs that lock the barrel into the frame, and after some trial an error, it now locks in and the hammer can be pulled back. Thanks for all the info.

Also, TC has a lifetime warranty regardless of how old or how many owners the pistol has had. I sent a 2nd generation contender back that refused to break open. The fixed the barrel lugs AND replaced a whole bunch of stuff in the frame that was still working but showing wear. Great customer service!

Navylt is right, but....

There may be an issue with some who don't want their frame altered. T/C will update the frame/hammer/ trigger to the latest design option. For those who want to keep their old frame " original" may not like it, and there is no option with T/C. Nor will T/C send any repair parts related to the trigger group out even to repair shops/ gunsmiths. Just an FYI...

Contender's hammer won't lock back

At one time I had 2 Contender actions. One was "old Style" and one was the new style with all the safties.
The old style would shoot the new style I could not get to fire because I could not get the safety off.
I bought a Ruger 77/22-Hornet and dumped both.
