Contemplating Kahr P40 Covert

I've recently been considering a P40 covert and would like to know if anyone has had operational problems with this gun. I would like to use it as my daily carrry weapon.

No operational problems that I can think of, 'cept for what I read about a creeping trigger pin.

There are two main reasons, however, why I personally bought the K40 Elite instead of the P40 Covert:

a) I didn't want my pinky to hang.
b) Polymer models suffer more kick.

The steel frames are not as cumbersome as you might think. Besides, you can always hit BG on the head with it if you have a jam. A polymer gun wouldn't do him as much harm on that count.

My 2 cents.

:D

I absolutely LOVE my P40, although the trigger pin did walk. But Kahr sent FedEx to pick it up for free, fixed it, and sent it back inside of 2 weeks. I'll be range testing it tomorrow. I've already got my order in for the PM9, due next month.

The P40 does have more recoil than any other pistol I currently own, but it's not terrible. More than an Ultralight .38 firing +P's, less than a Snubby .357 magnum. It's on par with or slightly more than a Glock 27.

As for how they compare to the steel ones, my personal experience is this. Of course they do recoil more than steel because of the weight. But I could tell a big difference when toting my wife's MK9 during the .40's 2 week hiatus. I wore the wrong belt to the mall, and it made my hips sore from pulling on them. I was constantly wiggling and adjusting... I just knew security would be out any minute. I have worn that belt with the P40 and it didn't have that effect. I really can't feel the 40 back there at all, although I'm aware that it is.

Don't get me wrong, the Steel ones are 100% stone reliable, and I have confidently placed my wife's well being in the MK9's capable hands, but they are still HEAVY.

FWIW, I sold my MK40 to purchase p9 which eventually became a P40 (long story, early P9 with lots of problems), I have not regretted the decision since Kahr swapped me for the P40.
(Before that time, I gotta admit I was sorry I had done it.)
The new Polymer Kahr's appear to be "bug free".

Good luck on your decision!

Ludicrous? No... Hilarious? yes. :)

It reminded me of something I could never figure out as a child. On the original Superman TV series, with Steve Reeves....

Superman is of course bulletproof, and would stand with his chin up, chest out, deflecting bullets fired almost invariably from a snub-nosed .38... but then he'd duck when they threw the empty gun at him?

Obviously the heft of a good pistol is more effective than the feeble little insignificant lead projectiles it spits out. ;)

P40 is great with a few mods

I have the P40 Covert and experienced trouble holding while firing - large hands. I had to hold my thumb differently or it would tap the mag release on firing and release the mag. I remedied these probems with a Hogue handall Jr, mag extension, and a heavier spring from Wolf. Now it is great to shoot. Excellent workmanship and an all around fine gun. 300+ rounds and no failures except for the above mentioned problems now repaired. It is a handfull.

I don't mean to nitpick, but I think George Reeves played Superman; Steve Reeves was a bodybuilder from the late 1950s and early 1960s who also acted in movie roles such as "Hercules".
