Contacting NICS

I believe it has to go through FFl because they have an account number. It is unlawful for general public to have access.I could be wrong on this and it could very from state to state :)

Since when does the law affect how NICS opperates?

Sorry, just a jab/observation/rant about NICS.

Lake,
First off - welcome to TFL!
If, or when you contact NICS or your State's version of the same, hope you have better luck than I've been having with them since early April.
The 'instant approval' of the last 3 purchases, a rifle and two handguns, has been 'delayed', by as much as 63 hours.
Prior to this, I never had any problems.
Unfortunately, the ATF was contacted regarding the first pistol, and I've been flagged ever since.
I located a second rifle that I want, so I get to go round and round with 'em again in a few days.
And I don't want to talk about what's happened to my application for a C&R license... :(
<rant off>

My advice is to leave well enough alone and let the FFL holder do his job, and hope for the best.
Good luck...

No fate but what we make...

No, it has to go through an FFL. You have to give them your FFL number and a password that goes with it. That is the first thing they ask for.

I bought a pistol last week and NICS took about two minutes. The time before-about 6 mo ago-it took about two hours.

Better days to be,
