Considering move to Evansville, Indiana

I'm thinking about moving to Evansville, and have some shooting quality of life questions.
Here in Memphis, I have access to a 1000 yard range, IPSC and IDPA matches, decent gun shows and shops, good gunsmiths and reasonable CCW laws.
Do any of you guys live in this area? What sort of ranges and/or facilities are in the area? Any comments or recomendations?
Thanks!

Go to shooterstalk.com, and in the machinegun section thare will be postings from a guy whose handle is MP40. He is from that area and may be able to help.

I dont live that far south, and am not familiar with he ranges in the area. What I can tell you is it is very easy to get a ccw permit here in Indiana. You don't even have to pass a safety course. It will cost you 25 bucks. But if I am not mistaken Indiana will honor you ccw permit from whereever you live.

I grew up in Kentucky just across the river from Evansville, IN. Lived in that area across from Evansville in Henderson, KY until June of 1993 when I moved to Missouri. The area is a growing location due to Toyota building their truck plant just north of Evansville.

In terms of a shooting range there is one located just east of Evansville(10-15miles) called the Redbrush Rifle Range. The propert is owned by Alcoa Aluminum (I believe so) since the range is located adjacent to their large aluminum smelter(my Dad works there). I have driven up to the range but never shot there. I know they have IPSC matches there. Do not know about rifle range. Outside of Owensboro, Kentucky(my home town) is a rifle range where a lot of military type matches are shot but they do not have a 1000 yard range. The area around Evansville has several state or federal owned hunting area that may also have ranges. The area is also coal mined areas where many of the former "stripper pits" are still open which are ideal for long range shooting. Shot my first M1 at one of the pits.

There are a few gun shops there. A real good one outside of Owensboro called Whitacker's that opened an outdoor range which I have not be to.

E mail at cgaira1@ldd.net to answer any questions you may have. Being a Kentuckian, the only problem moving to Evansville would be that you would be a HOOSIER.

Hey now semo, there's a lot uf us Hoosiers running around.

Matrix, most IN state fish and wildlife areas have ranges. They aren't the best ranges, but they are free. I was looking for my pamphlets that give the locations of the SF&W, but they seem to have disappeared into the wasteland I call my living room. IIRC, Crosley is near Evansville, Mt. Vernon or there abouts, but I don't remember if it has a range or not. I live near Indy, so I can't really help you wth the shops, and shows. Hope this helps.
