stopped to visit the evil pawn shop guy the other day to see if he had anything new in stock... He has a Savage model 16 stainless in 7mm WSM with synthetic stock and bushnell 4x12 scope and harris bi-pod for 450 OTD. And it happens to be a lefty bolt (which is great for me!)

Ive been looking for somthing a little cheaper to take through the thicker brush and other places i would rather not take my belived model 700. Does anyone own or have experience with these? If so was the experience good or bad? Accurate? Smooth action? Overall thoughts of the firearm? Any info would be great.... oh and is the price of 450 fair?

I'm not partial to Savage rifles, but they generally shoot very well. For a stainless lefty rifle I'd have to seriously consider it if I were left handed.

I see 2 potential problems. For some reason Savage rifles mag capacities in all the WSM chamberings is only 2. Two + 1 is probably plenty in a hunting rifle, but I don't know why every one else is 3+1 and Savage is 1 less.

Of all the WSM chamberings the 7mm WSM is one of the least popular and factory ammo will surely be a problem. If I didn't reload I'd pass. Even if you do reload I'd stock up on plenty of brass, because I don't know how long it may be available.

Of course on the other hand one of the great things about Savage rifles is the ability to easily change chamberings. For very little expense or trouble you could probably change it to the much more popular 300 WSM.
