Considering a Planner Plus...anyone use one?

I know, I know, off-body carry is less than ideal, but down here in TN the summers get too hot for jacket or even unbuttoned shirt. I thought about going with a waistband, but I would probably sweat to death.

Anybody use the day planners with built-in holster compartments? What are your experiences/recommendations? I'd love to know whether they work ok before I shell out a hundred for that Planner Plus. It'd be sweet to carry that Glock 19 all the time.

Don't know about the Planner Plus, but I have
a Phone-e-pak from the same company for a
Glock M30. It works fairly well, as it appears to be an overgrown cellphone case
complete with fake antennae. I agree with
you that the best place to hide a pistol is
in plain sight.

Go Ankle. Or - unless you want to traps around naked a SMALL pistol in a Thunder Wear may be a good option for you.
Anything but OBC! OBC is LAST resort. A Keltec .32 with the clip is pretty good if you got to go LOW profile. An NAA Mini Revolver works too - I had one as a KEY CHAIN for about 2 years.
Why these ideas? Because the .22 on your key chain beats the hell out of the Uzi you left in your desk drawer, or car (you going to bring that into 7-11 with you to pick up a big gulp?) or the one that got knock out of your hands... Or picked up by some one else. When you carry, you HAVE to maintain physical control over your weapon - AT ALL TIMES.
Some times OBC makes sense. Some times it works very well. Some times it is the best option.
But for general carry - I would wear a shirt unbuttoned over my inner shirt and just suck up the heat.

I lived in San Juan for the past twelve years, so I know a thing or two about ccw in hot, humid weather. Waistpacks (informal)and shoulder bags (formal) are, I think, better options because there's less chance of setting the thing down and forgetting to pick it up again when you leave. They're also faster draws. OBC is never ideal, but if you go that route, your tactics simply must take into account this additional factor. For many, esp. those who are not knowingly going into harm's way, (and who live in tropical conditions), the tradeoff can represent a reasonable compromise between safety and comfort.

Repeat from above: Maintain physical control over your weapon at all times. You would be lucky if the most that were to happen would be your gun getting stolen. The moral implications of your gun being used on an innocent person or the liability that you are risking by using this carry method makes it a horrifying idea, IMHO.

I've looked at AM. Derringer and Bond Arms derringers; short, flat, single action only, almost any caliber you want-sure, you only have two shots, but these are for very short range use anyway.

Stay safe,
pojim

I don't have a Planner Plus, but I do have the fake day planner that's sold by Dillon Precision and U.S. Cavalry. It works fine for me, although I've never had to use it for anything but carrying. I do worry about unautorized access, so if mine is not in my hands, in my briefcase, or within arm's reach, I lock it up. You're right that it's not as good as on-body carry, but for to/from the office, it's the next best thing. And it looks wholly innocuous sitting next to me on the car seat when I'm driving (and I have a CC permit which makes that legal here in NC).

Before you go off body, look at some of the tuckables like the VM2 by Sparks or the Tuckable Texican by Darry Gallagher. Galco makes one they call the ultra hide I believe. FIST makes one as well. Darry lives the Rio Grande Valley by the coast, and believe me, he knows about HOTTT AND HUMIDDD!!! The idea of putting my pistol down anywhere scares the PJ out of me.
