I am considering buying a 10MM, Pro's ? Con"s ?

Get the 10mm! You will love it. Ammo costs vary by area, but I can find it for about 16$ a box of 50 on average. If you roll your own it is much cheaper.

Cost of ammo is pretty much on par with any major caliber. The local Dick's sporting goods store has 10mm UMC for the exact same price as UMC .45, .357 magnum, and .40 (about $13 a box). I chuckle everytime I buy ammo there thinking about all the .45 guys that tell me ammo is to high. As far as defence ammo, my 10mm is the cheapest to feed of all my calibers. A box of 20 Silvertips runs about $9 where as the Cor-bons I use in my 9mm and .32 are around $16 per 20 and the Hydrashocks for my .45 are $38 per 50. Its not that bad, plinking ammo isnt as cheap as 9mm or .38, but what is. The last box of .45 Colt PLINKING ammo I bought was $40 for a box of 50 LRN, but no one down the .45 colt??

www.Cheaperthandirt.com and www.Natchezss.com has an good supply of target and defence ammo for the 10mm with prices on the level with other major semiauto calibers.

Let's see, uhh...

Glocks are about 5-600 dollars or so.

Used 10-series S&W's run 3-400.

610 revolvers are 500-ish, new and used. (Get a used one.)

1911's vary by manufacturer, but they usually start in the realm of 400, and go up quickly.

Witnesses go for 300-ish, and are regarded as a best buy by many. You have to get a heavier-than-factory recoil spring if you get one, though.

$16/box sounds about right to me, too.

I wolud reccomend a search on 10mm's, as we have been getting a lot of mileage out of it lately.

Been to A BUNCH of auction sites, Found 1 used Delta Elite for $825. in Alaska, Guess I'll keep lookin, Think I am sold on getting one, Now I just have to find it. :p

That's right Gents..I'm back...the doomsayer of the TEN! Did ya like that intro?
Hi Bobcat; I don't have a problem with the calibre. I just have a problem with the choices.
I'm going to condense this dialog and just say get the Glock 20. It's simply the best 10mm on the market today (as slim as the choices are). Good Luck, J. Parker

The 10 mm always struck me as being everything the 357 could be, but in auto loading format. A cartridge with a lot of potential, just not that many guns being made for it. It is a shame.

I've got a Witness that I bought last year.

Quite frankly, I LOVE IT.

I was sort of worried about getting a 10mm, as I, too, saw the cartridge slowly going south, but I'm very glad that I did get it.

Thanks for the price info, and especally for the Ammo info & Ballistics, The Cartridge is actually more powerful than I thought.

Most people have that reaction Bobcat. With factory defence ammo 670+ Ft/lbs is attainable. I've seen reloads in the 700-950Ft/lb range

I have the G20 with the extended barrel and love it!

For cleaning house with the hi-caps in it there is not much better. I may have to send mine back for the frame upgrade though, would be nice to put a light on it.

If you can't justify paying the money for the hi-caps then I would probably look at other options. However, I think the G20 is still the best there is.

10mm

Just bought a S&W 1076 for $475.00. 1006 is on either ,gunbroker, or auction arms now. A glock 20 with laser site and one hi cap mag went for $465.00 on one of the sites last week. There is one on one of these sites now that was at $430.00 with a high cap mag.

I bid on a nice Delta Elite that wen t for $630.00, would of bid more but my pc crashed. Good luck. I live in Alaska and that delta is to high. Of course the seller doesnt think so.

10mm ...

... choices, choices.

2 kinds of Glocks;

6 kinds of still-available Smiths (for the 10XX-series ignorant, that's the 1006/1026, 1066/1076, & 1046/1086);

and, as the posters who've sighted them indicate, lots of pre-owned DEs in various conditions.

If you see a decently-priced S&W 610, new or used, this presents you with still another 10mm option - and in barrel lengths ranging from 3"-6". I mean, how many people on your block own a revolver chambered in 10mm? (Quick as hell to reload w/ full-moon clips).

Yeah, you've also got 2 options in 10mm with the Witnesses, but after reading the posts on their poor quality-control (and not only in the 10mm versions), as well as EAA's sucky customer service, I'd pass for now (my opinion - others will differ, but you might do a Search on it).

Check my Sig for the choices I've made. They're both great pistols - completely different - but still very satisfying to own, carry and shoot. :)

Speaking of the 610 and 10mm wheelguns:

...or you could get one of those .40/.38-40 Vaqueros and punch the .40 cylinder out. Big dirty fun!

WOW Agtman, Those are awesome links & VERY helpful not to mention the most informative I have seen, Guess I have made up my mind on a 10, Now I need to just shop around, New or used ?, Which model? I am leaning towards Semi Auto though. I was a wheel gun man for 30+ years

Well heck, if you're awhellman, the SW 610 is sweet.

Can shoot 10mm and 40SW all day long. And very accurate out to 50 yards. with the right load and a mild breeze, I've gotten some nice 2" groups at 50 yards with some 180 grain lead TC bullets and a medium burning powder like Universal.

And you can shoot lead SWCs will the cows come home. Been dying to work up a nice 170 grain LSWC load with some of those super hard cast Laser Cast bullets.

Love my G20 but it can't shoot LSWCs factory.

But the good news if that used 10mm guns are sold at great prices because non-reloaders buy them and shoot a case through them and then dump them because too many shops don't carry 10mm ammo and when they do, its $17 a box.

Just buy a 10mm and save up for a Dillon 550 reloading setup. Costs me the same to reload 10mm as it does 45 ACP. Even 44 mag is still under $5 a box.

Get 10 and prosper!
