Congressman Thomas Rooney Poll on awb etc...

I am surprised by the support that universal back ground checks is receiving.

Aside from being tantamount to a universal gun registry, I don't want my executor to be hindered in bequeathing my firearms to my children or grandchildren.

I agree skadoosh, I'm surprised about that as well. Maybe we ought to be looking for statistics that make it clear that criminals obtain their guns not from legal sources but outside of the legal methods. If that became clear the background check support should drop.

I think this is because the general public do not see universal background checks as being connected to a registry.
Also, to those that do not own guns, the term "background checks" feels good...

Furthermore, the uninformed are being told that the new background checks are to close loopholes in the system that allow bad guys to buy guns at gun shows without a background check.

We know the truth, these sales are private sales, most do not happen at gun shows, and those that do, as often as not, are a seller selling to a dealer who doesn't need a background check anyway.

But the wording is, sales that are made withut a background check, no one is saying who is buy, who is selling, only the implication that it makes it easy for criminals to buy that way.

The disinformation campaign is still firmly on track.

Hate to say it, and believe me I am on the side of the RKBA, but.....

That's exactly how I would buy firearms if I were a prohibited person.

So: If keeping firearms away from prohibited persons is a goal, I can clearly see their point. It's a hard point to argue against.

The problem is that it is an intrusion on our right of property ownership. If the property is ours, legally owned, legally obtained, it's ****-all anyone else business what I do with it in regards to sale or disposition.

Remember they don't stop at what is reasonable, they just keep on digging.

They know good and well that the criminal will still break the law to do what he wants to do so why do they keep trying?

Here is a list of the stepping stones;

Background checks for retail purchase.
Background checks for private sale.
Need more proof, keep the records for analysis.
****, people still getting shot, just take all those guns.

BTW, knives are sharp, no assault knives .....

Somewhere down the line you have to look at these people and just tell them, "NO", "You can't legislate a perfect world".

EDIT: If they can't get it done this way they will try it another. Like smoking, I smoked and I'll be real, I quit over a year ago and I am happy I did. But right down to the bone I resent the way I was made to quit.

They couldn't get a law passed banning smoking so they just kept raising the taxes, they lied about where the tax money went. It was hard to oppose the taxes at first, the money was supposed to help smoking victims, right. All that money did was go everywhere else for everything else.
I remember paying over double the price for smokes in Arizona then what they cost in Texas. It was just robbery and it just got too damned expensive to smoke. If they can't get a ban thru they will try to tax the guns and the ammo to death. They will slowly drive away gun ownership whittling down the number who care until none remain to oppose them. Then they will get their laws through.

They drove the cost of my habit from about $90 a month to more then a new car payment.

I resent my country for allowing this to happen because no matter what the "good intentions" are, the end result is just another form of coercion and it robbed my Family of so much money.

Beware other people's good intentions.

You have no rights under the Second Amendment to not have your transaction recorded, nor do you have rights to minor intrusions on the transfer of property. Regulations on contracts - including that they be in written depending on certain factors - have been in place for longer than there has been a USA.

So, you're ok with every single American being required to get permission from the Federal government prior to exercising their 2a rights?
