Congressman Dingell rips Janet a new one!

Good letter. Especially the part where documents indicated that hundreds of thousands of felonies committed by known felons were not prosecuted because of Justice Department policy.

Good for Dingell! Reno needed her feet put to the fire just on General Principles.

However, my limited experience at gun shows and one local gun dealer is that the NICS check is made first. If the person fails, he is simply rejected before he gets to fill out a 4473. I would think it would be harder (but not impossible) to track these people down, since NICS checks want either a driver's license or a SSN.

Is this unique of the norm? What are TFLers observations on this?

Oatka, that's a good point. My (pretty good) recollection is that my gun dealer runs the check only after I fill out the form and does it with my drivers' license in his hand, but this is California. Can any FFL holders enlighten us on this?

What the letter fails to mention is that a lot of the rejections are because of mistakes in the system, not because the person is not eligible to purchase a gun. Those rejections are counted toward the statistics.

Dingell was the one who coined the term "jackbooted thugs" (for a NRA video back in '80) yet he was nowhere in sight when the NRA was getting ripped over the term. Seems like he's doing whatever is politically expedient and is nothing more than a craven politician.

Congressman: Reno a traitor
Traficant accuses U.S. attorney general of high treason, ties to organized crime

By Jon E. Dougherty
© 2000 WorldNetDaily.com

A U.S. congressman accused Attorney General Janet Reno of a range of illegalities, sexual improprieties and ties to the mob -- as well as treason -- on a national television news show last night.

Rep. James Traficant, D-Ohio, who is currently under investigation by the FBI for his own alleged ties to organized crime, made the explosive charges on Fox News Channel's Hannity and Colmes program.
Accusing Reno of "treason" for her failure to appoint a special counsel to look into charges that China stole reams of sensitive nuclear weapons data from the United States, Traficant said he has "sworn affidavits" from unidentified sources claiming Reno has also had lesbian affairs, has frequented call girls and has engaged in substance abuse.

The fiery Ohio congressman told viewers that sources close to him "had videotaped evidence" of sexual improprieties as well as the testimony "of five police officers" who have "stopped Reno for substance abuse."

But Traficant was most adamant about his charges that Reno may have committed acts of treason against the United States.

"I'm accusing the attorney general of treason," he proclaimed. "She has set herself above the national security of this nation, and I'm going to attempt to get all the information out" to the general public.

Traficant, who himself is under investigation by the FBI for alleged mob connections, denied that his charges were made to deflect attention from himself.

"Do you want Janet Reno to sue you?" asked show host Alan Colmes at one point.

"Go ahead, Ms. Reno, sue me," Traficant shot back. "Let's get this into a trial. Let's get it all out in the open."

On the crucial issue of suspected Chinese theft of U.S. nuclear weapons secrets, Traficant said the nation hasn't "had so much as a high school debate on the issue."

When questioned about the veracity of the affidavits, Traficant said he "didn't know" whether they were completely true or not, but added they were "important enough" to examine.

He also said the "entire Justice Department" has become little more than a vetting agency charged with concealing sensitive and potentially damaging information about alleged illegalities within the Clinton administration and, specifically, the department itself.

"I also want to know -- is Ms. Reno subject to blackmail over this information, and does [President] Clinton have this information?" Traficant said. "Did the FBI ever look into these charges? What do they know?"

The Ohio congressman said he believed that because of the charges he outlined and those contained in the affidavits he claimed to have, Reno has failed to conduct serious investigations into Chinese nuclear weapons theft, as well as a range of other Clinton administration scandals.

"She's too compromised," he said, adding that she had been "fast-tracked into her attorney general's position" to start with.

Traficant said Reno's alleged improprieties occurred while she was a Dade County (Miami, Fla.) state prosecutor and municipal judge.

"None of this is about Democrats and Republicans," Traficant said. "It's about getting the truth to come out."

The Justice Department was not available for comment at press time.

Meanwhile, FBI investigators are examining Traficant's own alleged ties to organized crime, something he says is politically motivated and unfounded.

The investigation stems from alleged decades-old ties between Traficant and mob figures from Youngstown, Ohio, where the congressman was once a county sheriff who, the FBI said, was elected with money donated from reputed organized crime figures.

Traficant was arrested by the FBI in 1982, but at a trial in which he defended himself, the soon-to-be U.S. congressman beat the charges that he was tied to the mob, but later, in 1987, was charged and convicted of tax fraud in a case connected with the 1982 charges.

Other reputed mob figures with alleged ties to Traficant have already been indicted by the FBI.

And, in an earlier appearance July 26 on Hannity and Colmes, Traficant accused former Federal Bureau of Investigation division chief Stanley Peterson of being on the payroll of the mafia -- a charge he had previously made only in the House chamber, where he was protected against being charged with defamation.

"I have irrefutable evidence that the FBI was on the payroll of organized crime in my valley," he said. "And the FBI and the Justice Department never investigated Stanley Peterson. Now, I could be sued -- I'm on Hannity and Colmes. He (Peterson) was the chief of the division of the FBI in Youngstown, on the payroll of the mob, was appointed chief of police at the direction of the mob. They never had an investigation, and there are agents there right now who are on the payroll of the mob, and the Justice Department did nothing about it."

Traficant has also said he expects "any day now" to be indicted by the FBI, though no charges have yet been filed against him.

"[Even if there would be] few tears shed if and when the Second Amendment is held to guarantee nothing more than the state National Guard, this would simply show that the Founders were right when they feared that some future generation might wish to abandon liberties that they considered essential, and so sought to protect those liberties in a Bill of Rights. We may tolerate the abridgement of property rights and the elimination of a right to bear arms; but we should not pretend that these are not reductions of rights." -- Justice Scalia 1998

It would seem that a good question to ask those that want stricter gun laws would be ... "Why pass more gun laws if our government refuses to enforce the ones already on the books?" OR "If the current gun laws can't be enforced, then how will even more laws be enforced?" OR the statement could be made ... "Let's first enforce the laws that we already have before passing new ones" OR ...

So Butch likes call-girls. So what? The only parties harmed in the transactions are the prostitutes, who know they'll have to deal with sub-standard examples several times a week. Of course, if I was gonna bump uglies with Butch, she'd have to pay me one hell of a lot of money, as well as footing the bill for the lifetime of therapy necessitated thereby.

The real issue is that Butch is a felon. I don't mean someone harmless like a tax evader, I mean she has been directly responsible for the deaths of dozens of Americans, and is culpably responsible for any glowing things that China decides to send our way.

Personally, I think Jim Trafficant was way too nice to The Evil Whore, but then, he probably doesn't want to have an accident.

I agree Coinneach, but you have to admit the predatory lesbian thing is damn funny, besides that with her holier then thou attitude having that shoved straight down her throat is the first step in getting what the doctor ordered. In unfortunate reality I doubt the b1tch will pay for anything anymore then any of the other criminals that "rule" over us will. They are almost all mass murders and tyrants anymore but the propaganda keeps their approval ratings up. At least there are some people speaking out against her. Wonder why Trafficant didn't mention waco ?

As for the original letter linked to in this thread. I would be hesitant to get too exited about it. There are often inter-departmental letters asking for clarification on issues. For all we know, he could be doing research into ways to make more effective and enforceable gun control laws that may not be so good for the lawful owners. The wording is surely a bit terse, but I would not read too much into this.

Remember all the hoopla when the video of Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson hit. You think there will be the same reaction with the Reno video :)

Information about Reno's proclivities is well-known but unpublished. It has been an open secret in various circles from day one. The mainstream press has known but has suppressed these"irrelevant factoids."

I suspect we will be deluged between now and next January with all kinds of revelations. This is a convenient way for the b*tt-kissing press to reclaim some elements of integrity by piling on. My evidence??? Web porn is the latest. Look for more.
