Concern with leupold bases for Savage 111

Hello,

First time poster, and I have a quick question. I have a Savage 111 in 300 win mag. I recently got a new Nikon Buckmasters with BDC, so I went to upgrade my bases and rings. I picked up some Leupold rings (49900) and bases (55724). The bases say they are for a Savage 10/110 Round Receiver, but their website ( http://www.leupold.com/_pdfs/BaseFit_RingHght.pdf ) describing the correct bases is sort of confusing. I bought these bases and when I mounted them, the rear hangs over the breech .50" or so. It doesn't seem to interfere with the ejection of casings or anything, but it doesn't really seem right.

Does anyone else have experience with this or know if it is okay? I think I'm just being paranoid.

Thanks :)

you need to reverse the rear mount. I have the same mounts on a 116 and even asked the same question on the manufactures forum. Search around and you will even see pictures.

I will take a picture asap, but I looked at reversing the rear and it won't work because the scope tube isn't long enough. I called Leupold earlier and they confirmed that it is supposed to hang off, but I still think that's pretty hokey. Anyone have suggestions for bases that don't overhang? Or a one-piece that goes across the whole breech? I already have Leupold rings...

If nothing else, I think it just looks stupid.

Pic didn't turn out too well, but you can see what I'm getting at.

EDIT: It doesn't matter, I went ahead and ordered a set of Burris steel bases. They don't hang off and I can still use my Leupold rings. Problem solved. :)
