Concealing a Ruger P89

I've recently aquired (ok, I haven't GOT it yet, but it's being shipped to a local FFL holder) a Ruger P89, my first auto all my own (shot my Dad's guns for years and years). Anyway, my biggest plan for this gun is to take my Texas concealed carry class with, and target practice. For most concealed carry circumstances, I'll be carrying my Taurus .38spl. Without debating the merits of revolver vs. auto for carry (read TOO many threads on that already!) :) , anyone have experience carrying this larger sized Ruger concealed? Suggestions on placement, holsters, etc? I'm "standard" sized (can't say average in Texas!), I guess, at 6', 185lbs.

Thanks for any help!

I have used a high ride waist and an inside the waistband and both worked well. However I think this gun is too big and bulky to be carried concealed. Good luck, I switch to a USP .40c ..

I would look into a IWB that rides deep. I recently found the Aker DEA (www.akerleather.com) and I'm looking into ordering one. If you notice the grip of the pistol is nearly in line with the belt. Thisis important for a muzzle long pistol like the P89. You might also want to check out the IWBs at www.waldonleather.com and www.customholsters.com There are also some very good Kydex holsters such as those by Mad Dog and Blade Tech. Finding a comfortable and concealable holster is a matter of trial and error. I've yet to meet someone that found the perfect holster on the first try.

So many pistols, so little money.

You might try building a small utility shed out behind your house. With a little effort, you should be able to hide that thing in there!! ;)

Seriously, the P89 is a bulky gun, but it is not impossible to hide. I'm pretty small framed and I like an IWB worn wayyyy back towards the small of the back (but not over the spine) for big guns.

Why not make the P89 your Winter weapon and the Taurus your Summer Special? I posted it once and I'll post it again: I like snubbies for deep concealment!

A good vest or jacket will help to hide the P89. Be safe, be happy and enjoy your freedom to carry.

I used to use an Uncle Mike cloth IWB, wore it center of back. But only when I wasn't going to sit much! That thing went half way down the a**! So I got a paddle rig for it too, and I really like that, when I can wear a coat. I think if I pushed the paddle around the rear of the hip I did OK with a sport jacket. That's the best I can say.
I recently got a P95 which is a little better IWB in the back. But out and around I also use a Sig230, which is a DREAM IWB.
One thing I can say is that my P89 has been 100% reliable.
Enjoy.

Safariland Makes a good paddle holster for the Ruger P series pistols. I bought one for my P-90 .45 and It makes it wuite concealable under a jacket or cout and very comfortable with their design.

i have a ruger p95dc which is only slighty smaller than a 89. the best way to conceal a gun that size is to change out one of the grips and get a grip clip that tucks in to you waste band in the small of your back. i also have a high ride holster that is for a hkusp, i beleive the frame is the same size, when i bought it there was no holsters of this style for the 95. you will still have to wear a baggy long shirt, but it can be done
quote:
Originally posted by DaveInTX:
