i know you have to be 21 to buy hanguns and handgun ammo. but is there an age on when you can get your concealed weapon permit? and is there an age to be able to carry a handgun?

No age limit in New Hampshire law. A carry license was issued to a 16-year-old a while back, I gather.

Not true. Federal law says that an FFL can't sell a handgun to anyone under 21 but there is no federal restriction on face-to-face sales. State laws generally restrict handgun sales to those under 18 but allow sales to those between 18 and 21. You have to check your state laws to determine what is legal in your state.

In Alabama a sheriff can issue a permit to carry concealed as young as 18 I know because I had one. It is usually restricted, mine was noted as valid only for to and from work or hunting/fishing only. This was written in ink by the sheriff himself. On top of the regular procedure, I had to do through a short personal interview with the sheriff. That was years ago in the late 70's so things might be harder now but I read recently in another thread that 18 was still the minimum age here.

In TN, it's 21 years of age to obtain a Handgun Carry Permit. It varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, but here in the Volunteer State you can die for your country WAY before you can drink or carry a gun.

concealed permits mean you can carry it concealed. what about in open view? is there an age limit on how old you have to be to carry a handgun?

thanks for the link. thats for loaded weapons. what about unloaded pistols? i assume there is no law against carrying an unloaded weapon concealed or in the open?

Wait until you're old enough to drive and carry the handgun unloaded in your vehicle. Some states (Indiana, for one) do issue permits @ 18. I'm sure Alabamer's law has changed since the sheriff personally modified the permit back in the 70's, but 18-yr-olds can still get a permit in Alabamer.

so you have to have a permit to own a hangun basically. or at least to take it anywhere, including the range and back from wherever you bought it from.

Check Floridas laws.
In MI you can transport an unloaded firearm either in the trunk or in a gun case inside the vehicle without a permit. If I recall correctly, if the magazines are loaded they must be seperate from the firearm.

Unless you have a vehicle, yeah pretty much. In a vehicle (provided you are 18) it just needs to be secured/inaccessible, and packing.org seems to suggests Florida's interpretation of secured and inaccessible is pretty liberal.

So yeah, minors basically have no way to legally transport a firearm in Florida without the aid of an adult.

In FL and many other states, it's fine to have a loaded handgun in your vehicle. In GA, for example, one may transport a loaded handgun either (1) in plain view, (2) in the glove compartment or (3) in a console compartment. No license is required for such carrying.

I think you are making this too hard - Florida is one of the most gun friendly places in the country.

You do not need any permit or paperwork to: 1) own a pistol at 18 in FL (AFAIK). 2) transport in a holster or case in the console of your vehicle (or trunk).
