Concealed holster question

I just got my CCP. Im using a Glock 27 as my carry with a Mikes IWB. The synthetic type holster. Im a tall leaner guy and i live in a hot climate, the south. Lots tshirts and shorts.

Just wondering what else you guys suggestion for a holster. Im sticking with the 27 for now, and realize that a small firearm would be better, but....

The Mikes isnt horrible, but I find that lots of my tshirts are just too short or tight and maybe I just need bigger shirts?

TIA!

Yup, you'll want to find 'hawaiian' style shirts as they are loose and break up the gun's outline.

Hate to say it, but I'd really consider getting a dedicated summer carry gun rather than find an expensive holster that sorta conceals your larger Glock. For example I have a P11 with belt clip that gets used in the warmer months. If you look around, they can be had for less than $250.

Otherwise, look at the CompTac Minotaur IWB holsters for your Glock.

Your just going to have to find the right combination of holster, belt and clothing. Do yourself a big favor and buy a decent holster and belt.

I've worn a full size handgun every day my whole adult life, and never had any trouble doing so. You just have to want to do it and be willing to adapt a little.

The main thing is, dont short yourself with the gun, carry what you shoot best with and go from there. You dont have to downsize the gun because of the weather, you just need to learn to dress around it, and its really not difficult.

IWB is the best way to go. If your going to not wear a tee shirt under the gun, I'd suggest going with a kydex holster, and if you sweat, its the only way to go regardless. You dont want leather against your bare skin, but especially if its wet. I never understood the CompTac holsters as I always thought thay got the design backwards. You want the kydex against the body, not the leather. The kydex wont allow sweat to pass through or get soaking wet, and it wont rub bare skin raw like wet leather does.

For the money, you cant beat Blade Techs kydex IWB holsters. They are about half what a decent leather holster costs, and will long out last them in hard, daily use.

Good thoughts. The mikes, not the best in the world seems ok now. I really want to keep the 27 as a carry, as I'm comfortable with it. I'm guessing that maybe different shirts are in order, I just hate the huge tshirt look, like I'm wearing a small tent.

I prefer button up shirt sleeve shirts. They don't have to be Hawaiian, but any thing plaid or with a busy type pattern will mask the bulge pretty well.

crossbreed supertuck. Carry full size 1911 and CZ type gun in t-shirt and shorts with a good belt, and never gets noticed, and I can carry all day without any problems.

If you wear the right pants or shorts a Smart Carry might also be an option. It works real well with the smaller guns, and you dont even need a shirt. Its very comfortable and a lot quicker than you might think to get the gun into action.

As it has been said already, . . . carry the gun you shoot best, . . . carry it in a quality holster, . . . and carry both of them on a quality GUN

I like my current carry holster best as it gives me the option of carrying OWB, IWB, or IWB tucked in.

May God bless,
Dwight

trigger happy...shorts and tshirt? (meaning comfy against bare, hot skin?) Can you send up a pic?

concealed very easily under a t shirt while wearing shorts yes, comfy? nope sorry but comforting yes

I'll try to post a pic if I can figure out how, Blade Tech has pictures on their website though, that may help

I use Comp-Tac 2 o'clock on G19/32s all summer long. Hawaiian-style shirts are handy, for sure, but I find they are not a must. Dressing in the following manner, starting from "base layer" and working out:

- Your underwear of choice...
- T-shirt, worn under belt (optional)...
- Belt (1.25" is what I use)
- Comp-Tac 2 o'clock: retained nicely by belt.
- Sweatpants (a la Nike, etc...) with wide elastic waist band: extra support for holster.
- G19 into the holster (after all proper checking and inspection).
- T-shirt, not tucked in.
- Additional shirt if I feel the need; sometimes a second or third T-shirt, sometimes a Hawaiian, sometimes a Polo-type shirt, etc...

I have found that it's best to avoid putting rubber grips on the G19, as the rubber grabs fabric and is more apt to betray the handle.

That's it. This technique works for J-Frames, Commanders, Fullsize 1911s.

Good luck.

I agree with others here in saying get your self some longer shirts and carry what you want,i do.I wear a large shirt and tan shorts and feel no discomfort.Infact this is how i'm dressed most of the time during the summer.

Thank you all for your advice and the pics! Magnum P.I:rolleyes:

Thing that make me hesitant is that no one has a good selection local, and I dont wanna end up with 8 holsters I hate.

TriggerHappy... I understand the comfort/comforting part. Just want to do the best I can to help it along.
