Concealed carry St to St?

Can you get a carry permit for the entire continetal US, or is it only a state by state deal.
When I applied for my permit I was told they do an FBI background check. If so why limit the license to one state?

Absent a reciprocal agreement between the states, CCWs are only valid in the issuing states. Groups like the LEAA (& I think the NRA) are working towards nationwide CCWs. It may be for LEOs at first, but would probably spread to non-LEOs if it happens.

As to your question, why one state's CCW isn't honored by another, it's because under our constitutional system of government, each state is considered a sovereignty in its own right, free and independent of other states and bound together only by Federal Law (HA HA HA HA HA - sorry). Therefore, one state cannot mandate to another state what its citizen can do while in the other state.
