Hi all!
I just got my WI CCP a few weeks ago. I have a Kahr CW40 that I love and want to carry. My question is what is the best kind of holsters to begin looking for? I want an IWB that I can carry at 5:00. I am a very tall thin girl (5'8" 110lbs). I have an OWB that I wear with a sweatshirt or at home when I am OC, but am looking for something to wear for everyday. Any suggestions?

Cornered Cat is a great place to start.

My wife is roughly the same build as you from the what you describe and shes had to do a lot of trial and error.

For whatever its worth the one thing I can tell you we agree upon is that plastic holsters hurt and leather seems to be by far the most comfortable...
Lots of people will feel differently but save yourself some money and keep reasonable comfort in mind.

A holster thats totally uncomfortable you will be unlikely to wear and after a while you wont carry. A holster that is reasonably comfortable will give you that sense of security and wont rub you raw in the process.

Keep in mind the first month you carry you will feel like everyone knows you have a gun, by the second month you will realize most people wouldnt notice if you had a third eye in the middle of your forehead.

Also lastly my wife said to caution you when using the ladies room if you hip carry, just be sure the weapon doesnt hit the floor when nature calls.

Definitely a good resource for male or female.

There is no such thing as a stupid question, but, honestly, the best kind is the one that fits, is comfortable(-ish), and is concealable on your person.

I, personally, started out carrying 3:00 on the right hip IWB. After a few weeks of a sore right hip from extended periods of carry (not to mention having do deal with some seriously ingrown hairs - Ow!) I moved over to small of the back. Easier for me to hide (6'2" - 175lbs), easier for me to reach (shoulder issues make a draw from a high ride holster difficult), and alot more comfortable for me.

The overall qualifier there is "for me." Might not work for you. As others will tell you, you may only own a few guns (or just one) but you will likely have a drawer full of holsters before you find the "perfect" fit:rolleyes:

Good luck and congrats!

edit: Oh, right, as to what I actually use? El cheapo nylon Uncle Mike's left handed IWB for a right handed SOB draw.

Here's one option that can possibly open up what type of clothing you wear:

http://www.thunderwear.com/

I've carried for about 15 years now - have all kinds of holsters. Though I prefer an IWB, I like these for carrying when I'm in "professional dress" (slacks, shirt, tie - work clothes for me) and need to 'deep conceal' carry.

I own one of each and I'd have to say I prefer the Smart Carry brand. Though the Thunderwear is nice and comfy, the Smart Carry seems to be holding up better for me over time. YMMV of course

Just thought I'd throw these out there as other options.

Here is another option,,,

The picture on their website almost scared me away,,,
But their products are very nice and well made.

I use the men's concealed carry briefcase a lot of the time,,,
Several of my lady friends have one of their purses.

I don't think this should replace a good holster altogether,,,
But for those outings where they aren't practical,,,
This would provide you with a viable option.
