Conceal Carry

I currently have a conceal carry permit issued in the state of Ga. From what I read it is recognized in Tn, but not in Alabama or Mississippi. My problem is that I frequently travel through Alabama and Mississippi and would like to be in compliance with these states. Do they have a law similar to Ga. in which you can transport a weapon in clear view with out having a carry permit for that state? Any help in this matter is appreciated.

G-1911, I'm in the same situation. Packing.org is a good site for all sorts of info.

Alabama does not allow non-Alabama-residents to transport a gun except unloaded and in a locked container. Visit the Alabama DPS site for details: http://www.dps.state.al.us/weapon.html

Mississippi does allow transporting a loaded gun in the car with you as long as you can legally own it. Apparently, the Mississippi statute allows for concealment of the firearm (i.e., glove compartment, center console, etc.) as well. Visit the FAQ on the Mississippi DPS site for details: http://WWW.DPS.STATE.MS.US/mhp/cib/firearm.html

Call local Sheriff's Office

The best thing to do is to call the local Sheriff's office in the state where you want to carry a weapon; be it 'open carry', or concealed. When I went to Maryland a few months ago, I called with questions regarding carrying a revolver, and one person said I could not bring the gun into Maryland, permit or no permit. Another person said as long as the weapon is unloaded, and locked in either the glove compartment or the trunk, with the bullets in a separate place, I was fine. Since I got two different stories, I didn't take my gun at all. I will be getting my conceal carry permit in a few weeks, hopefully, and I know what states honor NC state's conceal carry laws. And it's a quite a few of them too. Maryland, NJ, and NY are a few that don't. But I don't travel that way often anyway. I like the south, and that's where I do a lot of my traveling.

I'm confused here. Alabama and Mississippi have reciprocity with Georgia. As long as you follow those states' laws while you're there I don't see the problem. It looks like after reading Code of Alabama, 1975, Section 13A-11-73,75 that you can carry concealed in your vehicle. Mississippi 97-37-1 allows for concealed carry in car.
