CompStock Question

I am considering buying a Knoxx CompStock. Has anyone here had experience with this felt-recoil reducer? I'd like to hear about your experiences. Thanks!

Well, I don't have experience with the Compstock, but I do with the SpecOps, and I'll toss in an answer just so you have something to go on.

The SpecOps, at least, does indeed work. My 870 with the SpecOps kicks less than an 1100. I don't see why the Compstock wouldn't also be effective.

Greetings Kindablue, and welcome aboard,

With its low price, I'm sure many are happy with the Knoxx comp unit. But, I question the basic design concept of the system.

With the Knoxx system your shoulder is helped but your cheek will still take full recoil. This may not be a big deal for casual shooting. However, if you're shooting several hundred rounds a day in competition, your cheek might like some relief, too. Have you considered a system where the comb reciprocates with the butt?

I have a compstock on a Mossberg 835 3.5" mag shotgun. I bought it because I wanted to shoot some of the 3.5" T shot loads for coyotes. It definitely changes the recoil. I have shot some of the hardest kicking rounds I could find through it to check it out. You still get the recoil, but the "punch" is slowed down so you get a hard push rather than knocking your shoulder out of the socket. Some of the rounds seemed to make the gun almost jump out of my hands, but my shoulder never got bruised. Still I would not want to put very many of those rounds through it at one sitting. It was a good investment for me. Others opinions may be different.

Yours sounds like the ideal application of the Knoxx unit -- buffering some really heavy loads from time to time. Kindablue needs to evaluate his anticipate use and decide accordingly.

I have a Compstock on my Moss 500 Persuader, and I'm pretty pleased with it when it comes to heavy loads (3" buck or Dixie Tri-ball).
I'll admit that a buddies similar Moss has a Limbsaver on it and it is nearly as good at about 1/4 the price.

Thanks for the helpful replies!

I won't be doing any competition shooting, and don't expect to use other than 2 3/4" shells. So "Limbsaver is almost as good for 1/4 the price" pretty much decides things I guess. Thanks to all; every reply gave me some useful info.
