compressed loads with xtp bullets

I am running a compressed load of AA9 with a 180 gr xtp in my 10mm. The problems is when seating the bullet the hollow point gets semi closed up when putting the extra pressure needed to compress the powder. Is this a problem? Any way to stop this? I am using lee dies. This does not happen with any other loads just the compressed one.
 
Accurate doesn't indicate there is a compressed 180 grain #9 load. And their site lists a 180 XTP. 12.2 to 13.5. No compressed loads.
Shouldn't be any more pressure required to seat a compressed load than any other load either.
You're likely using an RN seating button. Use the FP button. Makes no difference anyway. HP's rely on velocity to expand, not how big the hole is.
 
Bells n whistles going off

I have Hornady 9th. They show their 180gn XTP running from 11.5gn (950 f/s) to 14.9gn (1250 f/s). There is no mention of a compressed load. COL 1.260".

Something seems wrong.
 
Anyway, if you still have fingers to type with, tell us exactly what load you are running that is compressed, the other details may be of some interest also...:)
 
I loaded a batch of 147 xtp's that I had the same problem with. I didn't notice it at first, but all my HP's are inconsistent. I found out it was because I was crimping the case before my bullet was completely seated. if you are crimping and seating in the same step, try backing the body of the die out and setting the seater stem deeper.
 
If you are deforming your bullet to "compress" your powder charge, you are exceeding what they mean by "compressed". You are also going to affect your accurracy when you deform your bullet.

If its just a case of a soft point being deformed with ordinary pressure, most dies have differnet seating stems for different shaped bullets. Somemtimes a seating stem from another die in a different caliber is the solution for this to put seating force on the bullet somewhere besides the tip.
