hello all,

In my persuit of a better undertstanding of firearm/pistol safety I completed a course out here in Long Island with a really fun and cool instructor.
Got there at 3pm and left by 6:30pm.....

I asked a ton of questions, got a free gun lock, some pamphlets and books on gun safety, learned how to operate a Glock 19, load, unload, disassemble, clean and reassemble.

The best part of the class was the live fire practice.......I wish I had taken video or still photos to show my buddies lol, but anyway, I got to have some fun and fired off like 110+ 9mm rounds through the instructors Glock 19.

In the end I'm not sure if I'll ever buy a Glock though, but I'll be shopping for a Beretta or Kahr when the time comes....

Glad you did have fun.
Lots of stuff to know out there and taking classes gives you a jump start on a life time of learning.

Yep, and the instructor was a really cool guy too, and I can see him and I being shootin buddies......I'm gonna try to take his intermediate and advanced classes also when the dough rolls in....

Same here. Did a local class back in December in order to get my CHL and the instructor really made it enjoyable. Especially since I hadn't been shooting in quite a while it was nice to get a refresher course in the basics and to update my grip and stance.

Good for you..BUT..Dont rule out GLOCKS, they are great....did you save your target ? was this your first shoot ? I still have my first target...What a difference from then and now. I started w/the G23 (I know, not he best first time gun but i didnt know any better) bought one about 2 weeks after my class and been in love ever since..I think b/c I was so terrible w/it the first time, I was determined to buy one and get good w/it. No regrets its my favorite....But whatever you choose, good shooting and have fun !

DonLu.....

I looked thru the Glock catalog and kinda like the .45 ACP Glock 21C

it'll be on the shopping list once my NYC pistol permit comes in, if ever lol....

yeah i saved all my targets.... I also read thru the textbooks I got from class, and am beginning to see what I am doing wrong with my shooting technique.....

gotta practice...

point in safe direction

keep finger off trigger until ready to shoot

keep gun unloaded till ready to fire.....

forgot the last one......wait there are 3

forgot the last one......wait there are 3
FAIL!!

Just kidding. :D

Congrats on getting off to a good start. And I second the Glock recommendation, though it's best to try a variety of guns, if possible, and pick the one that you feel most comfortable with. Good luck!

Congrats,
The biggie I was looking for was "know your target & what's beyond". That's so often discussed (or forgotten) on these forums.
Treat all guns as loaded
Finger off trigger until ready to shoot,
keep gun unloaded till ready to fire.....
is a given, at least as far as the basic course goes.
Keep the muzzle in a safe direction.
~ just wanted to let you know that I didn't ask without knowing~
Be safe!
