I live in Boise, Idaho and am looking for a competitive shooting event for my son who is 14 years old. Does anyone know of any? is there enough interest to get one started up and running?

let me know what you think.

Get with your State Rifle and Pistol Assn. Check with the CMP website to find how to contact them.

Just about every state is trying to get jr. shooters. They provide you kid support from guns and ammo and coaching. They even help with transportation to Perry. Sierra has a program where they will furnish bullets at halp price to Jrs through the respective state assns.

Biggest advantage of the ARs is it allows jrs and women to compete.

Congrats on getting your kid involved. We need more Jrs. They are the future of shooting sports.

rotten little kids

When I started competing in USPSA competition, my entire first year was spent being beaten by an eleven-yr-old girl.

USPSA offers an excellent Jrs. program.

youth

I do not know about your area, but down here the 4-H has competitive .22 and air gun training for youth, both rifle and pistol.

There has to be some small bore shooting going on there some place. Small bore rifle is cheap compared to some of the others. Normally there is a rifle to borrow and most .22 I would shoot is cheap.

Nice thing about small bore is it can lead to high power. I went to Perry in 07 for NRA week and was stuck in a shack next to the Washington State boys. They turned out to be a great group of young men. Yes sirs and No sirs and they were Helpful too. These guys started out in small bore.
