Competitive accuracy

Joining a new club that has a siluette league. I have many handguns including a very accurate 1911, a 22/45 and what I think may be the most accurate a 5" 686+ Talo.
My question is if the 686 would be accurate enough shooting 38s to be competitive on a fun level.
Is there a 38 cylinder available for the 686 to improve accuracy? Either way I will likely use it and or the 22/45 at least for the short term to hone skills etc.. I have never shot this type of dicipline.
Am I jumping the gun (intended) by asking these questions before I even get out and shoot the coarse?

Accuracy loss from shooting .38spls in .357mag cylinders is a non-issue. IF there's an effect, it's way too small to worry about.

Assuming your 686 is in spec and fed decent ammo, it ought to be capable of fine accuracy...so long as you are too. ;)

Yeah, second guessing what the results will be, even before trying it, is pretty much a waste of time.
Just go, enjoy yourself and see what's what.
Your shootin' irons will do just fine.
It's figuring out the hold overs for the various distances and pacing the shots that's the hard part.
The silhouette games are great fun.

I shoot silly wets with a 38 at times. I do not think a target wadcutter will do much good at 100 yards on the rams. SWC will be fine. Something a little hotter than a target 38 will help with hold over.

I load most of mine for 1100 fps and sight at 75 yards. The turkeys are hardest for me to hit so a zero on them helps and I know how to hold for the rest.

I shoot where the feet meet the rail for chickens, in the box made by the legs of the pig, right on for turkeys and on the line of the top of the rams back.

This works for all firearms loaded at 1100 fps. except rimfire pistol.

Most of all have fun, its a great sport and will hlep you become a better shot.

If you get a 38 cylinder, show is if it shoots better than the original one. I do not think you will see a difference. Nick shoots a 4" Smith 38 and does well. He really knows his guns. He can shoot 2 inches @50 yards off a rest.

Good point. I was focused on the OP's accuracy concern and missed the "silhouette" part. :o

I've never shot silhouette, but it's my understanding something that's got more punch and a flatter trajectory than target .38 ammo would be the way to go.

After reading what you guys are saying I may be best suited to stick with the 142 mags that I have been shooting. They are running around 1400fps from a 5". Once I shoot them up I will start reloading the brass to see what I can tune. I wouldnt mind slightly less recoil. The Talo grip is on the narrow side and made from lam wood. I think I will move to some type of a formed grip or at least a packmeyer type rubber.
