Competition

NRA Highpower matches must be shot with a service rifle. Since the AR-15 is a semiauto only version of the M-16, it is allowed and very popular.

3-gun, probably. I suppose you could shoot highpower with it, but it would be a challenge with a short barrel and even shorter sight radius.

I think Colt just named them "Competition" to try and get away from "Assault Weapon" ninnies.

Unless something's changed, it wouldn't qualify as a service rifle under NRA or CMP rules. Barrel's too short. I'm pretty sure in the AR chassis, you have the choice of the A2 or A4 upper (nobody shoots the A4 because it runs out of elevation at 600yds). You could shoot it in the Match rifle category though.

I was just trying to think of a way to justify it :o

I prefer open sights to optics so I would probably want the A2. A3 has a removable handle correct?

And I guess the other question would be the size of the view hole in the handle but I presume that could be easily changed.

The hardest part is getting a 1:7 or 1:8 twist. But I guess 1:9 would not limit me...

But I do know that the RRA NM A4 carry handle does go to the full 600 yards I believe.

Many companies put out products as the ULTIMATE, EXTREME, ect. Firearms makers do this as well but they use "match". THe problem with this is their deffinition of what match means. It is all subjective really, IMO it is just a selling point and nothing more. Some seperate their barrel materials and designs from the standard crome-moly ar's to the stainless ones by using Match after the regualr name. They target the guys with expendable income and little knowledge who walk into bass pro shop and buy the most expensive gun there just to brag to their neighobors that they own a "match" rifle...they make me laugh, of course so does my daughter who ran into a parked car while talking to me the other day...god wheres a camera when you need it.

This."I have a Colt Match rifle so I have the best of the best because my "friend" at the counter told me lol.

Sucks to walk by the counter and hear the sales guys suckering these guys out of money.

I still think I might prefer the "full size" (ie. National Match) model.

But the only AR-15 I have used was the 16 inch and I was rather fond of that.
