OK, I saw this add for a Rock River Arms upper reciever in TRUE PREBAN config... so needless to say i was thinking that I must buy it. However, if I have a bushmaster lower receiver will the Rock River upper fit it? As well the lower reciever is post ban so I realize that there are some legal issues with doing that. But just for sh*ts and giggles I wanted to know if I could throw it on there. I wanted to get one before all the prebans get way too expensive. And then somewhere along the way I will purchase the preban lower reciever so that the legality issues are no more. Thanks for the responses.

Colt lowers & uppers have different pin sizes but Bushie & RR are in spec.

Do NOT buy a preban configed upper while possessing only a post ban lower

Thats a punishable offence.

Most AR manufacturers sell preban uppers (flashhider, threaded barrel end, bayonet lug)

& the 11.5 inch upper is a real no-no for Joe Sixpack
 
See, from what I was told, the companies like BM and RR only will sell the preban configs to LEO's and being as though i dont fit that description... its a pain to obtain one. So for the time being I was just going to get the receiver and keep it until I can get a lower receiver. WHich is turning out to be a pain all in itself, I just searched gunbroker and there is nothing out there that is less that 800 which kind of cramps my style if you know what I mean. Speaking of which I kind of also want to add a twist to this post and ask just if there is a way to really make a preban lower? Or, if even possible, would I be better off to just buy a lower somewhere else that is complete? Thanks.

Uppers are not rifles and Bushmaster or RR or Model 1 will sell a preban configured upper to anyone with the cash.
They will not sell a LEO cofiged rifle without Police papers.

Your posession of an upper with a postban lower is problematic.

i saw preban Washington State Police marked Colt Rifles at a gunshow last fall for 1100 bucks.

The RRA upper will fit on the Bushy lower, but DO NOT put a preban upper on a postban lower. Instant felony and 10 years in the slammer... if you get caught. I know, it's a silly law. The only difference is the bayonet lug and the flash supressor.

If you want a preban lower, be sure to get verification that it is a legal preban. Should have left the factory as a complete rifle or should have been part of a complete rifle kit on or before Sept. 13, 1994. If not, it's not a legal (grandfathered) preban. Legitimate sellers will present proof in writing. If not, pass on it. There are numerous sources to check serial numbers for preban or postban status.

Alright, you now know it's illegal to own a pre-ban upper and a post-ban lower without a pre-ban lower and as others say, it will fit.

Well, if you're not doing anything else illegal, why would they search your house? Besides, that law is there to scare the lawful people, example: TFL members.

You're not going to prison for just having an pre/post ban combo gun. It will be added to you marijuana distrubution charge and unpaid speeding tickets.

Okay, be on the safe side, order you pre-ban upper and keep it at a friends house. Your safe now. If you're really paranoid, give your friend CASH(don't go to the bank and take out the exact amount all at once) and have them purchase it for you.
 
Why would you take a chance on a felony conviction, forever disqualifying you from owning guns, to save a couple hundred bucks? Anybody advocating that is not giving you good advice.

You may never get caught. you only need to get caught once.

If you want a pre-ban, buy a pre-ban...complete. It won't cost any more than buying an upper and a lower of questionable lineage.
