Comparison: Ultra Carry vs. Defender

I went to the range today to try out a Glock 36. It was nice and more accurate than my 30, but recoiled a bit more than I usually care for. I then rented a Colt Defender that was just as accurate and more controllable. I'd previously thought about getting a Kimber Ultra Carry but haven't been able to try one out. Does anyone have any information on if and/or how an Ultra Carry would differ from a Defender in terms of recoil? The specs are the same for both so I would expect there wouldn't be much difference.

I have personal "issues" w/Kimbers, so I prefer Springfield and Colt.

The U/C and the Defender are pretty much the same weight/dimension, so there wouldn't be much, if any difference in recoil.

Buzz-the only difference in felt recoil is the Defender is slightly easier to control because of the Houge grips (opinion). The recoil spring arrangments on both are very good. Have both and the ultra carry is more accurate. Both are pain to strip and clean. Some jacketed hps will chew up the feed ramps on both pistols. MMC makes adjustable rear site with the Kimber cut.

Like Secmat said, the U/C and the Defender are nearly identical in size/weight. I couldn't see where there would be any noticable difference in recoil. The Hogue finger groove grips that I believe come standard on the Defender might help some, but that's a cheap addition you could add to the U/C. I've found the recoil of my U/C very manageable and it is a fun gun to shoot. My personal advice is to get the Kimber. I don't think you'll regret it.
