Comparing a CZ RAMI D against a Bersa Thunder UC9

About a year ago I purchased a Bersa Thunder 9UC,,,
I showed it to a friend and he called it a "Poor Man's RAMI".

I had to admit the two pistols are very similar.

Last week another friend purchased a brand new RAMI D in 9mm,,,
I borrowed it to make a couple of comparison photos.

They really are extremely similar in size,,,
The Bersa is fully ambidextrous,,,
The RAMI is not.

I spent a fun half an hour handling and dry-firing the guns,,,
The Grip on the Bersa was slightly more comfy to me,,,
I believe it was the slightly bigger mag extension.

All in all the guns are so dang close that it's difficult to pick a clear favorite,,,
I haven't fired the RAMI as yet (nor has the owner) but that's today after work.

I know my Bersa is as accurate as I could want,,,
It doesn't jamb and goes bang every time I pull the trigger.

I expect the same from the RAMI,,,
More on that tomorrow.

Hello chris in va,,,

Curious, you mentioned the Bersa has a decocker, but looks to have a safety in the picture?

The rear lever is the decocker,,,
If the hammer is cocked pushing up decocks it.

I've had several people say they don't like the largish controls,,,
But I find that I do like them very much,,,
No fumbling to find or engage them.

I think you will find the RAMI very accurate. Mine is better than I am for sure. I've got the adjustable sights on mine bit it shouldn't matter. The RAMI was my first pistol and still my favorite and EDC piece. (that may change after Saturday when I break in my new coonan!) It is very comfortable to carry.

Hello ADK_mechEtech,,,

I think you will find the RAMI very accurate. Mine is better than I am for sure.

I'm sure it will be,,,
My CZ-75B certainly is.

The reality for me is that every handgun I own,,,
Is probably capable of more accuracy than I can use.

I'm no Bullseye shooter that for certain,,,
If I can keep all of my shots on a paper plate at 25 yards I'm ecstatic. :D

I toyed with the idea of a Rami when I was coming to terms with my SP-01's long DA reach. The Rami was a bit better, hence the interest. I remember thinking that the Rami was wiiiiide. Wider than my SP.

Yet here we see the Bersa is even wider, albeit not by masses.

I had expected it the other way around for some reason.

The RAMI certainly is wide but it helps since the grip is quite short. I find I can get 2 fingers in normally and then my pinky wraps around the bottom of the magazine perfectly. I have shot it at a silhouette target at 25yds and kept 20 rounds on the target with the majority in a 12" circle. I'm a novice shooter at best and i'm sure a lot of people could do better. I was amazed how well it shoots.

I don't find it an issue for carry.

The da pull is long and fairly heavy but it is reasonably smooth. I practice several mags in DA only every time I go to the range. I do have the safety non-decocker version though so I manually lower the hammer *carefully*. I carry it with one in the chamber decocked. I wish the safety could be engaged but I feel that the length and weight of the trigger pull is quite sufficient.

Well we broke it in very handily,,,

All told we put 150 flawless rounds downrange,,,
100 were Winchester white box,,,
50 were Federal steel case.

My friend did well with the pistol,,,
At 7 yards he kept all shots in a 4" circle.

I was also shooting my 75B,,,
Just about the same accuracy level.

I didn't do so well with the RAMI though,,,
And to tell the truth I found the recoil to be quite "snappy".

I've fired a RAMI before,,,
I don't remember it being like that,,,
It's definitely snappier to shoot than my Bersa UC9.

I had a brain fade and didn't pack the Bersa for this trip,,,
We're going out again next week and the Bersa will go as well.

I want to do a real time side-by side comparison of the two,,,
But to tell the truth based on yesterdays experience,,,
I think I like the Bersa a little bit better.

What bullets were the WWB 115gr? I have been shooting Speer Lawman 115gr TMJ almost exclusively. They cycle perfectly and I don't feel like the recoil is that snappy. Obviously a heavier bullet would be worse for that.

Hello CUBAN REDNECK,,,

There is NO comparison. The RAMI is a better shooting pistol.

That's a pretty definite statement,,,
What criteria do you base it on?

As far as the ammo goes,,,
I honestly didn't notice the bullet weight.

I've handled a few CZ's, and I had a BERSA 9HC, and honestly I don't see a significant enough difference in quality to be worth noticing. If I wasn't entangled in a love affair with 3rd gen S&W's I'd pick up another BERSA 9mm in a heartbeat.

Fair enough,,,

Fair enough,,,
At least you've fired them.

Lots of people will dismiss a Bersa,,,
Simply because of it's Argentinian heritage.

I'm looking at my CZ mags now (75B + Kadet),,,
I don't see any visible difference in their construction.

But then again, I'm not an expert in magazine design,,,
What I can say is the UC9 has eaten everything I've loaded into it.

Kinda like my CZ's.

Shot both guns. The RAMI is a better made handgun. The Bersa has issues with feeding and the mags are much lower quality.

My Bersa Thunder Pro UC9 feeds with 100% reliability and I see nothing low quality about the mags or the gun.

The Bersa is a pleasure to shoot and the ambi controls are great for a lefty such as myself. I'd love to try a RAMI but, alas, they are made only for right-handed shooters.

The best thing going for the Bersa, IMO, is the trigger. What follows is a post from another forum by me:

"My Bersa Thunder UC9 Pro has absolutely the best trigger of any DA/SA hammer fired gun I have ever pulled along with the shortest reset. The reset and pulls on it is comparable to my P99 AS. The DA pull is equal to my CW9s. The SA pull is better than my P-07 (2014 gen) which has some spring swaps and some work done on them.

Everyone that fires/dryfires the UC9 comes away astounded and impressed. I may have an anomaly but my little UC9 is that damn good."

And I still stand by that.

And as ttarp and GoPappy stated above, there is no discernible difference in the quality of the two firearms or their magazines. Anyone that states otherwise has either gotten a lemon of a certain brand or they have an ax to grind. Simple as that.
