Compact 9mm Poly Framed?

Looking at a compact 9mm polymer frame pistol. So far the Beretta 9000 and the Star Ultra Star have caught my eye. Will also look at the Kel Tec P11. My preference is for a DA/SA with a fairly clean frame.

Any other pistols I should consider?

Thanks

Have a look at the CZ 100/110. The 100 is dao while the 110 is
da/sa and a little rarer. They arent as small as say a Kahr or Keltec..but they are light and compact. The quality is as good as
anything and they are actually inexpensive. You can check them
out on czusa.com Recently compared against other handguns
of like size and construction..it was rated as the one to buy...

Shoot well

I carried a Kel-Tec P-11 for a couple of years. Mine was accurate and very reliable -- and durable.

But I could never shoot it that well under pressure, as I found when I tried it in IDPA matches. (My scores with the P-11 were generally a lot worse than when I shot my other guns.)

Good gun for those who can master the long, double-acton only trigger. Some can. I couldn't.

The Star Ultrastar is probably a fine gun, but you'll find that since they're not imported any more, parts may eventually be a problem. (I have three Stars, including two Star Firestar Plus 9mms. I really like the Plus models, as they are light as well as accurate.)

Two other guns to consider: the CZ-100. Funky trigger that apparently improves over time, and great ergonomics. Its polymer framed and reasonably light and concealable.

(As far as I know, the CZ-110 was never imported to the US. I'd really like one of them.)

And don't overlook the HS-2000, whick looks and acts like a cross-breed between a SIG, a 1911 and a Glock. Its now being offered by Springfield as one of their models, so look around for an older one; it'll be cheaper. Another nice gun.

I find my Kahr P-9 is spending a lot of time with me lately. When I was looking for a small, light (plastic) 9mm, I looked at the G-26, Beretta 9000 & Keltec. The Glock & Beretta were too porky, Keltec just didn't feel good to me, so P-9 it was.;) FWIW

If you like the CZ line but really want a poly and not thier alloy compacts, both Witness and Magnum Research make their CZ clones as a poly compact.

Loch.

PS: today I cant spell

I have handled the Beretta and (personally) found it very clunky and uncomfortable. Be sure to check it out before buying - I was planning on buying one until I handled it. Also, the safety/decocker was VERY hard to flip on and off. Suppossedly fixed on the newer ones, so might not ba a problem.

I have a Kahr P9 that I love - DAO though. Very light and smooth DAO, however.

Kahr P9 or Glock G26. Wait a year and maybe there will be a Kahr MP9 (polymer framed version of the MK9). Consider also a current Kahr MK9. They are really no heavier than a G26. Just four less rounds, but a heck of a lot thinner.

Taurus PT111. Small, poly, 10-round mag, less expensive than Kahr or Glock, narrower (I think) than Glock 26, more expensive than Kel-Tek.

I really like the idea of having an external safety, even if it's dao, because of concern that something will accidentally catch on the trigger and shoot my p_cker off. If you're in a situation where you might quickly need the gun, just flick the safety off.

Scratchy trigger, but not as long as the Kel-Tek. I've read on boards about lots of problems with the Taurus, including trouble with the service department. Hopefully that's improving as Taurus gets the bugs out of it. Anyone heard if the newer PT111's are better and if service is improving?

Keltec p11

My Keltec comes with 3 barrels and two slides, a 9mm set and a .357sig/40s&w set. The recoil is very strong with the 9mm set (may be the recoil spring) but the 40s&w is really nice to shoot.

I am fond of my Steyr M9. Comparable in size to the CZ and Glock 19. Worth checking out, great trigger, excellent ergonomics and extra safety features.

Good luck.

P-11

My vote is Kel-Tec P11...I just went through the process your going through and decided on the Kel-Tec. But let's remember something..this gun is a $250 gun..do you like to tinker? I did the fluff and buff that the Kel Tec Owners Group reconmends, put a polished trigger shoe on it, as well as a trigger stop, a mag extender for my pinkie, and a hogue jr grip. All in all I have less than $250 and about 2 hours of my time in it. It will also take the Smith 59 or 69 series magazines and the company has the mag extenders for them. Is it a Glock 26...no....is it $500.. no. Find one that feels good and go for it.
